books/dvds on making folders?

Don Robinson, Chris Crawford, and Luke Swenson. Might be slippies on a couple of these

Have you seen the book The Lockback Folding Knife From Design to Completion by Peter Fronteddu and Stefan Steigerwald?

I purchased this book and recommend it. Good pictures, good products. It presents alternative designs for spring placement and talks through the considerations during the design process, allowing you to make more than just one knife.

Potential Challenges:
It often assumes equipment that you may not have (rotary tables, lathe), and it doesn't always suggest an alternative.
Metric measurements are used.
It assumes you are capable in all the techniques - it doesn't train you on how to select files, use a mill, heat treat, or the like.
I had to re-read many times to understand the layout of the pivot; there may have been an error in one of the dimensions or order of operations. Or maybe I'm just dense.

Both true

If I remember correctly, I had to read that section a few times to get what he was doing too. I chalked it up to this book being originally written/published in German (or Dutch, I can't remember) and a difficulty with translation and thus the metrics.

He doesn't use the most precise methods or tools, but my friend Tim of Sugarcreek Forge made a liner lock tutorial a number of years back on Youtube. Although it's they're not the best quality videos (made in early 2013), he makes it very easy to follow along with what he's doing and why he's doing it, which I think is a good series to get you feet wet and to get the general idea and basic understanding in what goes into making a decent and functional liner-locking knife. FWIW, he was actually mentored by Rick Hinderer years ago, and he just adapted his own methods and style to have fun and make what he likes. Anyway, here is a link to the playlist if you're interested: How to make a liner lock
