Colt,
Check out any of Tom Brown's books. He is very well known and respected and has at least one book specifically about tracking. He mainly writes about primitive survival skills. Any Barnes and Noble or other big chain will be able to help you out.

Take care, (AND a big knife)
Jim

Read Mors Kochanski's Northern Bush Craft. Contrary to an article in, I think, Blade mag., it is still in print:Lone Pine Publishing, ISBN 0-919433-51-0. Not so much on tracks but excellent stuff on firecraft, axecraft, knifecraft, sawcraft, bindcraft, sheltercraft, snaring, trapping, and how to survive in the boreal forest where Kochanski is one of the premier survival instructors.

I'll ditto both the previous posts, both Tom Brown's and Mors Kochanski's books are excellent.

I got the book by mors about 6 months ago and man i loved it. Great Book. Geoff.

I liked Mors Kochanski's book - now just called "Bushcraft". It's in print - I got a copy from Chapters Bookstore a few weeks ago. http://www.chapters.com

I like the ancient books by Kephart and Nessmuk - both back in print, and hardback copies come up frequently on ebay. Calvin Rustrum is also good though many of his books are out of print.

Though those books sre quiteinformative, I recomend the the Hood's Woods "Wodsmaster"video series. If you can't learn survivaal skills from those great videos, better stay home under the bed!!!
You can get the videos at their website: http://www.survival.com .

It will be money well spent!!!!

I have the Every bodys knife bible, and it is a good little book. Not very long but he puts in a lot of neat tricks ideas I had't seen any where else. For no more than it costs I would say it is a good one to have.

Well, I have two books no one has brought up yet. One is "Tracking & the Art of Seeing - How to Read Animal Tracks & Sign" by Paul Rezendes, and the other is "Animal Tracks" a Peterson Field Guide by Olaus J. Murie. Don't know how they compare to the previously mentioned books but I like them.

Those videos sound good!

Three Toes- I've got them too, both good. The Rezendes book is really well done.

I see some EXCELLENT books listed above. I've read the tracking book by Rezendes...good one.

I own Bushcraft, Everybody's Knife Bible and Peterson's Animal Tracks....Excellent books! All are available, the first and third at Amazon.com for sure.

I looked at Tom Brown's book last week for the first time, and it is now on my buying list for the future!

Good luck!

I want to thank you all for your input i will have to do some book ordering now. If there are any other books out there keep them coming.

Thanks,
Colt

I have Everybodies Knife Bible, and even though a few of the ideas in it are odd, it's a good overall little book. Because of your post, I dug it out and am reading through it again! But I'll read anything on the subject of knives and wilderness survival.
