Hi folks

I know I am late to the party but I now realize that there are huge gaps in my traditional knife knowledge. Indeed embarrassingly so.

Can you pundits please recommend to me a short reading list/reference book list that I should look to acquire in order to expand my meager knowledge?
I would particularly like to learn more about all the famous manufacturers such as Schrade, Remington, winchester,Case, S&M etc...... Information such as their patterns and sizes.

I thank you, in advance, for your kind consideration to my request............:)

Steven

Steven, I don't have many books dedicated to a single manufacturer but the ones that I find most useful for my purposes and interests are:

Levine's Guide To Knives And Their Values (4th Edition)

The Standard Knife Collector's Guide

Official Price Guide To Collector Knives

American Premium Guide To Knives And Razors

Big Book Of Pocket Knives

Goins' Encyclopedia Of Cutlery Markings

Counterfeiting Antique Cutlery

Steven,

I have many books/reprint catalogs that serve me well. Levine's Guide To Knives And Their Values is an excellent source.
Many of the salesman's catalog reprints available from many sources are good also but lack company history etc.
Collecting Case Knives: Identification and Price Guide was given as a gift to me by Blues(Elliott) and is an excellent book. Quality pictures, paper , well written highlighting patterns more so than Case history.

A much overlooked source is right here in our backyard.

Knife World has a pretty good library of books for sale. I sent you a PM on finding Levine's Guide.

Get a sub to Knife World. Lots of articles throughout the year on old companies, old patterns etc.

I picked up the Great Eastern Cutlery book from one of the GEC owners at the Chesapeake Knife Show last year, and a Case book written by one of our members here last month.

If you can't find Levine's book, pick up the Blade Price Guide, lots of info there.

Carl was very kind in giving me some knife books, lots of good information in there, I will get the titles of all of the books.

Don't forget:

"American Pocketknives, A History of Schatt & Morgan, and Queen Cutlery" by David A. Krauss.

"Blade's Guide to Knives & Their Values - 7th Edition". It has evolved from LG4 over the years.

"Pocket Knives of the United States Military" by Michael W. Silvey.

"Remington Knives Past & Present, Identification & Value Guide" by Ron Stewart and Roy Ritchie
