Other than the friendships I've made, the great knives I've come across (some lost to the trading bug, some never owned), I've developed a small collection of knife books. From Dr David Daroms art books found at a local bargain outlet, to old knife books given as gifts, scoring great deals at used book stores and flea markets to trading knives for books, I've gotten everything from Levines 4th to dog eared knife pamphlets.

Books may be a dying "art form", might not be the right phrase for them. All we have to do is a search and we're inundated with all kinds of knife pictures and information. I still like to pore over a couple books at once.

I want to see a book written by my friends Carl and Ron, both friends with Bill Moran. I saw Ron when I was leaving work last night, talked with him for a bit and passed along Carl's well wishes. Ron had a bowie he made with an eagles head pommel, and I could see the influence Bill had on his work, and Ron's own distinct style, especially in regards to self defense (his kerambits and kubatons were neat). I told Carl I was more interested in, well, kind of a biography of the man and what he got into, as far as trouble goes ;).

I also want to see a book about Tony Bose, the patterns he resurrected from the depths of obscurity in old knife catalogs, his own designs and in general his influence on the industry. Pictures yes please! His Case collaborations too.

Reading the Blade Guide to Knives or the Levines Guide, there are lots of makers and factories out there that I'd like to learn more about. Knife World and others have followed up on obscure companies. Maybe another Knife World collection.

What knife books do you want to see?

Great idea for a thread!

I'd like to see a book dedicated to the history of the traditional patterns. When, and by whom, were they created? Who was their target market? Which companies have produced them? What are the classic examples? How have they changed over the years? For those whose popularity has not been constant, when was their heyday, and have they had a resurgence?

For the patterns that were intended as working knives, I'd also love to learn about the people and professions that used them and how their daily tasks influenced the design of the knives.

I would buy a book on the history of Puma knives, with lots of glossy pics of course. Lots of fuss over GEC but give me an old World Puma stag folder anyday.

I was wondering about same thing.

I asked someone really close to Tony Bose, if a book was ever published . book containing more information on Tonys work, knife patterns he ressurrected , his own patterns and a more in depth information about his knives , work, case collaboration, and biography.

I have read small articles but i really think a knife legend like tony deserves to have a book written.

It will be great to have good pictures of his early work at his shop if available and tony at work designing a knife from start to finish.

I developed a particular intetest in his knives as they are well made , made to perform.
Tony has vast knowledge on folding knives.

I am sure many would enjoy, learn and probably be inspired on collecting or making traditional knives.

I was also searching for books written on william scagel . Found only one good book on scagel and his knives.

A book on Tony would be great.
