I went to many sites and read hundreds of threads, what I still don't know is what basic tools do I need to make some basic leather projects, and what books should I get to understand how to get into making leather sheaths for Knives and pistols. I would appreciate any feedback. I love reading a seeing the fine leatherwork on this forum , .

Stohlman has an amazing library of books out there, most can be had at Tandy stores, its nice to be able to thumb through them before buying. I have a few myself. :)

Also, do a search here, I remember a few threads about books in the last year or so.

The two books that I believe are "must have" for anyone getting started are:
The Art of Hand Sewing Leather, by Al Stohlman (shows basic tools needed and how to use them)
and
The Art of Making Leather Cases, vol. one...also by Al Stohlman (shows basic "how to" methods for many cases including knife sheaths, and you'll find holster making is very similar)

Leathercraft Tools by Al Stohlman is another great book. This shows you all the tools, how to use and sharpen them.

I want to thank everyone for the information, I going to get the books that was suggested , again thanks for the info, I can't wait to get started , I always wanted to try leather work, I hope to post my progress here. I really enjoy ready all the posts, a wealth of information. thank You
