Ok, I have this friend see....

Yes, I do have this friend who has convinced himself he wants some sort of low profile single shot device that would fire a bullet or shotgun shell at close quarters even if at some personal risk. He lives in a country where possession of firearms is strictly off limit to civilians (hint, even the terrorists chop people's head off there as guns are hard to get).

Myself, I am not so much into smuggling illegal weapons any more since my portfolio has done so well

But if you have some somments/experience/suggestions (other than mine which was "forget about it"). However, the guy does live within 20 miles of where the Kh*b*r terrorists attacked (and escaped from the quasi watchful eyes of about 1500 S**d* military and police). The other advice was "move home you idiot! as his wife and kids are with him.

Look I am in no way advocating bring something into a country where it isn't legal. But if you want info for yourself, I may be able to help I will email you the name of a site to check out so you can get some idea of whats out there.

Sounds like the perfect scenario for one of those 1 or 2 shot derringers chambered for .40-70 Govt/.410 shotshells to me. How do we get one to him in the sandbox though?!?!
Put on your thinking caps forumites!

Out of paranoia I erased my ideas. But they revolve around the same principal as a shark bang-stick, but my ideas were not at the end of a stick but carried in a pocket.

Think along these lines ....... tube, o-ring to hold cartridge, firing pin (either fixed or mechanically actuated). How you hold onto it safely would have to be worked out. Also be sure to use proper steel for the tube.

These types of weapons can be made easily with minimum materials.

Good luck,
Mike

Does he live in one of those "infidel ghettoes", or does he have his own accomodations?
The idea is -- I know that in a lot of the infidels' compounds Saudi law is relaxed in many ways (alcohol, dress, etc.)
I'm not sure whether this is meant for home defense or for secret carry.

Wife and kids should be sent home immediately in any event.

Infidel ghetto is the actual name of his development, but relaxed has changed. Definitely in the case of "when they come door to door"...

At this point I would worry about the terrorists at least as much as the cops.
I don't know the right way to think about this, but what about other tools like flash grenades? What kind of training has your friend had?

Check out this thread for ideas on how to prove that you're Muslim. Certainly easier and maybe more effective (until everybody does it).

The item you're looking for is manufactured by http://www.revelationarms.com in Aloha, Oregon. It is a Class III Firearm. So, your friend's first problem is buying it especially since he is not in the US and I'm just not sure how someone not in the US goes about applying since your county sheriff has to sign your BATF Form 4 and I doubt that your friend's will. Assuming that your friend can get his BATF Form 4 all signed, sealed, delivered, etc., there is now the problem of him picking up his new toy at Revelation Arms in Aloha, Oregon. Revelation can only transfer the item to another BATF Class III dealer or to the owner named on the Form 4.

Expatriates can carry guns to stop militants, says Saudi Arabia

Western expatriates working in Saudi Arabia will be allowed to carry weapons to defend themselves against attacks by Islamic militants.

Prince Nayef bin Abdulaziz, the interior minister, made the radical concession because foreigners working in the private sector feel poorly protected by Saudi security forces.

However, those working on government contracts will not be eligible and will be protected by the Saudi authorities.

"In principle, a Saudi has the right to carry a weapon if he has a permit. Likewise, a foreign resident, if he felt in danger, could get a permit to carry a weapon," the prince said in remarks reported by the official Saudi Press Agency.

His comments came as some expatriates - who do not have the right to carry arms - have started buying them on the black market for about £230.

The distinction between government contractors and the private sector is likely to go down badly in a country where all expatriates feel vulnerable. "What am I supposed to do?" asked an expatriate on a government contract. "I may be protected at work but I have to drive on my own."

An emergency meeting of western ambassadors with the kingdom's foreign minister, Prince Saud al-Faisal, is due to take place in Jeddah on Sunday to discuss further measures to improve security, including proposals to bring in expatriate guards.

The Daily Telegraph reported this week that a 25-man SAS team had been sent to Saudi Arabia to bolster security at the British embassy and plan a possible evacuation of foreigners. The embassy in Riyadh denied the report, but a spokesman admitted that the mission needed "new resources" to improve security.

The idea of foreigners of any kind carrying weapons in the kingdom could stir renewed opposition a year after the United States announced that it was withdrawing military personnel.

But after several attacks on foreigners - including last week's beheading of an American engineer, Paul Johnson - an increasing number of expatriates are on the verge of swapping lucrative contracts for a safer life.

A "zip" gun may do you in before the terrorists. What are you going to tell the Saudi security forces when/if they find this contraband firearm? I would strongly suggest your friend follow the public laws, especially since he is not in the United States of America.

Regarding a "bang stick" or "zip" gun, what are you going to do with it in real life? Against one person it may be better then nothing but, against two armed terrorists, are you really going to be able to get both of them? The noise may be good or bad. The noise may rally additional terrorists to come in and finish you off or, it may bring Saudi security forces to your aid.

A good knife may prove more useful if you have the determination to use it. YMMV
