Last summer a store was going out of business and I purchased this buck. I can not find much information on them. It's a Boone and Crockett platinum. I just can't find much on it and I could have sworn I looked it up successfully when I bought it back then. It's like the info just disappeared off the internet!

Ok my mistake. I looked to see how to delete the post but did not see a way. Please delete.

(repost from 2018) The Boone & Crockett Platinum Series was a short lived line exclusive for Dick's Sporting Goods about 2014. The 3 knives in the series were the 493 Waterfowler, 494 Caping, and the 583 Boning knife. They were 154CM steel. The original knives can be identified by the model code ending in xxxxxDK-B. 'DK' identifies the retailer they were made for and yes, '-B' means boxed. They must have not done well for Dick's and the following year Buck used up the remaining parts and sold them as build outs on the factory web page for cheap. The build outs were both 154CM and 420HC and can be identified by the model code containing 'BO' instead of "DK'. The 154CM blades were marked as such but if there is no indication then they are 420HC. Hope this helps. /Roger

It's a Boone and Crockett platinum boning knife that's never been used. What are they going for these days? What's a fair asking price? Hope this ok. Google "buck 583 knife". All the info you could possibly need. I used Desotosky's great info as the jumping off point and found a bunch of stuff.

Thank you so much, that is everything I was looking for! Oddly enough it wasnt a dicks I bought this at. I wonder if it was a sample they acquired to see if it was something they wanted to carry. I purchased it at a K-mart going out of business.

Sears (owner of Kmart) has had many dealings with dicks through all of sear's financial problems in the past decade so who knows. It also could be one of the build out projects buck had going on that desotosky told us about.
Who knows. (All speculation)
