I notice a 2009 tang stamp. I guess Buck is literal about the date stamping, since it's a 2010 model. Still, very nice looking and nice packaging, too.

Bear Claw lives closer to Larry than I do.
Here is the set with the 303 and 309. Boone and Crockett medallion small enough to not take over the 'presence' of the knife itself. Very conservative, which I was concerned about. 303 medallion appears smaller in size than 301 and 'fills' less of the scale. Standard shape to bolsters.

Shipped in clam pack. Effort to get into clam pack, but understandable. Fit and finish is good, on first handling and with mag glasses, no nics on any portion. Paperstone tight to liners and bolsters. Paperstone finish very much like a kitchen countertop in sheen on the polished surfaces, Unpolished, a dull smooth almost orange peel like surface. Polish and sharpness first rate. Very small amount of polishing media in 303 blade well. (Had to say something critical). Will be safe queen(s) in my house.

Purchased from Larry Oden, shipped to my door via USPS (am friendly to postal worker, they rang doorbell and waited till I got there to hand it to me. Small town living......).
Larry's BCCI member cost- $74.50 US.

Thanks Bear & 300 for posting photos of your new knives . I like them . Do those have the "Made in USA" stamp ? Is the handle material the same as the counter top ? Also, are these polished the same as "The Chairman Series" ? Thanks, DM

Yes, the "USA" is visible in the picture on mine on the tang......

Is the handle material the same as the counter top ?

Far as I know, yes.

Also, are these polished the same as "The Chairman Series" ? Thanks, DM

Nope, regular squared off bolsters.

Only someone from Buck could say for sure, but I think it is the same. PaperStone is a construction material with a wide range of applications. It would be cost effective to use the standard material that is out there. Here is a link to a sheet about Paperstone's working properties:

http://www.paperstoneproducts.com/ps_fabrication_maintenance.php

Me thinks me will have to pick up a few of these me self :D

(Pardon my faux dialect.)

Odds are it probably is the same as the counter top material, or Buck couldn't call it "Paperstone".

Good looking knives-Paperstone seems to be taking Buck by storm. It does look like a lot of desk and countertops you see in institution settings-schools,
restraunts and what not. Boone kinda has a big schnozz though dont he?:p

Looks like both Boone and Crockett were hippies :p

I've seen PaperStone countertops in new "Eco-friendly" homes being built in my small town. It doesn't look any different from certain types of formica. Paperstone can utilize graphic images, (photo printing, design patterns, etc, ) but so far I've seen only solid color countertops. What I've seen doesn't look fancy like imported Brazilian granite, but it does look nice. I'll bet they could make it look like Brazilian granite, marble, or jasper, etc if they wanted to. I'm sure it would cost more.

My question is whether there are different grades or densities of PaperStone, like a construction grade, machine grade, etc. From their website it looks like it's all the same except for different sheet thicknesses.

There are different grades.
PaperStone website said:
There are three series of paper-based PaperStone products:

1) 'Original', which is made from 100% post-consumer recycled cardboard 2) 'Certified', Certified to FSC standards, is made from 100% post-consumer recycled standard office paper. 3) 'Virgin Series' made from virgin fiber

Ah yes. The grades here refer to the source material, I was thinking of the physical/mechanical/working properties which may or may not coincide with the source.

We have this same material for our kitchen counter tops, my wife special ordered them in 2003 . But in light of this I'm telling everyone they came from the Buck knives factory . DM ;)
