Hi, I just gave a friend of mine who was going away my desert 6-colour camo boonie. So now, I need another one.

Does anyone know where I can get a genuine (US-made) desert tri-colour camo boonie (with branch loops, 2 vents on each side, chin strap, poly-cotton? or nylon-cotton?) for under $15 or so? I wouldn't mind if it's made to US mil-spec but not in the US so long as it's of good quality and has the branch loops.

Or if anyone has a genuine issued desert tri-colour boonie in size 7 1/2 to sell to me?

Anyone know who makes the army issue desert boonies?

Thanks,
spyken

No, but it's interesting that they're naming clothing items "Boonies".

Back when I was in the army, rather a long time ago (1964-67), the "boonies" were just the woods, the outback, the wilderness.

We were always going out into the "boonies" on manuevers. Our favorite song at the time was "Down in the Boondocks".
"Lord have mercy on a boy from down in the boondocks."

I didn't know where the word originates...I looked; Miriam Webster says it's origin is Tagalog circa 1909 -Bundock, meaning mountain or forested region.

actually, I learnt the term only after surfing the Net. I'd always referred to them as jungle hats when I was growing up. Yup - boondocks I know....

so, anyone care to help? I know brigadequartermasters, uscalvary don't have the real mccoy (ie. with the branch loops)...

anyone?

I like Lightfighter.com for my military gear, and they have both 100% cotton and poly-cotton boonies in most patterns for $10. There's also always several ebay auctions for boonie hats, usually for around $10 also. Only a few patterns such as tigerstripe don't come with branch loops.
