Boos Aero Mini review(short&sweet)

Been playing with this little knife all day today. This knife has really nice stonewash and the anodizing is very well done. It' action is quick and snappy, responding to both light switch and push button flipping effortlessly. It will spydie flick just as easily with a medium light detent. The fit and finish is typical WE manufacturing. The jimping atop blade has a nice texture that holds fast to your thumb but the flipper tab could use a touch more of it.
It has serious lock stick for a brand new blade this thin and light. The bearings gritty initial action remind me of what the Spyderco Mantra felt like until I had serviced and wore it in. Pocket clip allows it to easily go in and out of the pocket but imho is too thin. It will bend and overextend and nearly did just going in my thick carharts.
Overall the knife is beautifully put together and like almost any knife has a few improvements that can be made. For the money you pay though. You are getting a nice little titanium framlock with some great touches from a respectable manufacturer and great design for a smidge over two hundred. I will allow the lock time to break in naturally and remedie it with graphite to the lock face if needed. Hope this helped anyone looking at getting one.

Edit
So I have had the chance to get to know the knife a little better and I want to do a quick update after a week or so. The lock stick is completely gone on its own after a day or two of extensive playing and manipulating the lock. I have had the chance to take apart and thoroughly clean and lubricate the knife which did wonders for the action. There was as we all have had before a tiny bit of grit from manufacturing sanding up the works.
This knife is now very smooth. I would not agree with those who say this has a fall shut action with light shakes or will easily nip you. The blade is far too light and imo could only do that if the pivot was lock tighted slighlty loose. It is again very smooth though. I would love to see a larger relief cut for the thumb on the lock bar as it can be hard to fit my large fingers in there to push lock bar over but isnt at all difficult.
Finally the clip is thin but still hasn't bent and I'm convinced if it not abused shouif hold up well and be great for easy in and out access. I am very happy with the purchase and will keep it for the foreseeable future . Hope this was helpful for anyone who got one and may not received it yet or those looking to buy one of a future run or on secondary market .

I received mine today too. Design is great, slim blade is awesome. I don’t have any of the lock stick you are experiencing, but I did notice the gritty action when I first started playing with mine. I was able to take care of this by disassembling the knife and clearing out the stop pin race of some metal shavings (minimal). It has worn in noticeably even over the last few hours and the action is much smoother.

My only criticism is that it has side to side blade play when the blade is centered, tightening the pivot takes away the play but drives the blade about 10% toward the lock side. Not a huge deal but somewhat of a disappointment.

I like it a lot overall, and I feel that it’s very well put together. I just wish I wasn’t fighting with blade play and centering on a $200 knife, especially after what I’ve heard about WE knives manufacturing.

Pics or it didn't happen.

I got the smoke ts1 and love it. Had to pass on the mini Aero due to Christmas presents.glad it's great. I'm sure there will be a bunch for sale on the exchange soon. Not sure if he's doing a 2nd run or not.

Lock stick? Maybe try cleaning out the factory lube and clean off the tang really good. Then see if it's better. If not use a #2 pencil on the tang where the lockbar hits the blade. That should resolve it at least for a lil while. If not check with William, he's a really nice gentleman.

Blade play could be because something was not put back right when you put it together. I know some knives require the stop pin to be a certain way... Again talk to William, he will help you.

Thanks for down and dirty of your experience. Mine shows signs of getting smoother but still has that notching feeling like it was overtightened from factory a tiny bit. I'm hoping it will wear away completely. The only other thing is for this price range the edge is disappoitingly bad when compared to how sharp my other productions come out of box (spyderco, zt's, exc ).

I just got mine as well. I am not experiencing any of the things you mentioned. Mine is very smooth and the blade is centered perfectly. The only problem I have with it is, its just too small for me and my gorilla hands. Unfortunately, I will be selling this.

The blade material is cpm20cv the same as a ZT 456 uses and that knife sells for $240 US.

According to Boos site, they state it with CPM S35Vn.

Sorry i was looking at another of their knives.

Ok i now found the Boos Mini knife using CPM-S35VN for it's blade material.

I feel the CPM20CV is a better choice of blade material then CPM-S35VN.

There both Mfg. by Crucible Industries LLC the CPM20V has 20 % Chromium where the CPM-S35VN has 14% Chromium also the CPM20V has 4% Vanadium where CPM-S35VN has 3% Vanadium.

There both quality steels but for the price of the Boos Mini, i feel the better blade material is the CPM20CV like the ZT 456 uses.

Ones a thin stock slicer and smaller gentlemans flipper. The others a thick behind the edge, Tactical flipper with big heavy scales.

You can't really compare them.

If you think your getting your money's worth because your getting more material and better materials then go for it. I'd pick the slicer. I love zt's quality though.

I know about the difference in material thickness of their blades, my comment was in regards to the material used in their blade.

Yea 20cv is better. We knives have access to m390 but the costs go up. Plus these are low production numbers. I think William wanted to hit a fair price point.

Yes i agree it's important to hit the right price range today, and there is nothing wrong with their choice of steel, what really i feel is most important is the heat treatment of the blade steel.

I had someone questioning if MicroTech did their own in house heat treating, called them and they told me that they did.

I know Medford does their own D2 steel heat treating, also i found the owner Greg Medford put his cell phone number on his web page it was a Sunday around 10am, i called his cell number got his voice mail left a short message and my phone number and went shopping within 15 minutes my phone rang it was Greg Medford i said i was sorry calling on a Sunday he said i put my cell number there to get calls people call me from all over the world night and day, what can i do for you.

If you look at Medfords web page he shows you a lot about his company and himself.

I got mine yesterday and absolutely love it. I don't have any blade play issues, or grittiness, or lock stick, etc. etc. Perfect example here. I didn't think I'd like it as much as I do, but it's one of a very short list of 3" and under knives that I actually like as well as fitting comfortably into my hand. The thin blade stock leads this to being an excellent slicer, if only it came as sharp as I like. Wouldn't say it came dull, but it drags through paper, no biggy easily fixed.

Anyway, I think Boos nailed it out of the park with this knife, and I'm excited to see what he's going to bring in the remainder of 2018.

Who is this WE Knives are they a supplier to Boos?

WE knives is a knife manufacturer. My understanding is that Boos designed the knife and it was built by WE under Boos branding.

The design is super compelling- I love how slim the blade is.
