boot clip and HEST

I've had questions about the RC3 boot clip and if it fits the HEST sheath. Although the HEST sheath was not designed witht the boot clip in mind it will work. Somebody here on the forum figured that out and I tried it and it does work. BUT you have to assemble it as follows. Put all four posts and screws in loose until screws start threads correctly. THEN push posts down tight. THEN tighten screws. The alignment of holes is not perfect and thus the screws rub a little against sheath holes as they go down. You also have to move one of the little screws and post to the top hole on the tension hole for the knife lock up. If the top hole is too tight for lock up add a thin shim washer in between the sheath layers to relieve the lock up a little.

Granted this is not the way we normally design stuff but when something can be done without any special tools or drilling or anything I will post it up here. This particular trick I learned from somebody here. That is one of the great things about this forum. We can and do learn from the folks that buy our knives.:) Mike

The reason it is a little finicky to assemble is that there is a 1/8" difference on the hole spacing of the two bottom holes. SO on the boot clip the top two holes are 2" apart and the two botom holes are 1-7/8" apart while all holes on the sheath are 2" apart. So you have to 'fudge the two bottom holes 1/16" each to get it to work. But I have done it a few times with no problem and others have here too. We don't post this on the web site as the RC3 boot clip fitting the HEST sheath becasue of this slight dimension difference. But most guys here have enough common sense to work it out ok.:) Mike

Cool, thank you!

Now all I have to do is order another boot clip, that's awesome.
