I got a leather rifle scabbard for my Henry 30-30 to carry in my mule looking for hogs. For quick access to the rifle, I plan to put the cased rifle muzzle down in the floor board of the passenger seat, with the butt sticking up above the seat so I can grab it in a hurry. The scabbard is nice leather, and the muzzle end will get pretty beat up riding this way with the end against the floor board. So I am trying to rig something to stick the muzzle end into, which will pad it and maybe keep it from slipping around. You all are pretty good with suggestions so what do you think? I have thought of a felt boot liner to stick the scabbard in, and maybe a large pvc pipe padded with foam, or even an old boot.

Try to find a way to mount the scabbard so the muzzle end is not in contact with anything. Not so much to protect the scabbard but you don't want the rifle's muzzl being slammed down on surfaces even if padded.

Mount a KOLPIN GUN BOOT in the passenger well.

You have the option of using only the bottom half for quick access.

Or just buy vehicle rifle mounts from Cabelas or else where.

They come in a plethora of configurations.

I have a Koplin gun boot yet it is hard plastic with no padding, and I have been reluctant to use
it

thanks guys for these suggestions. I am getting warm... My atv is a yamaha rhino, and it has a small vertical "grab handle" between the seats. I think I may be able to rig a clamp to the grab handle, attach velcro or something, and then strap the bottom of a koplin boot to the handle. May also be able to with my scabbard by making a sort of leather frog to slip the scabbard in, and then strapping that to the grab handle.
Please keep your suggestions coming.

Yeah i was just thinking you could shove one on, its cheap and strechy. I've used saddle scabbards for years horseback, in my polaris ranger i use a rifle rack in the back.

Why not mount the Henry muzzle up and without the case instead - I would prefer that when gunning for hogs in a mule.

Or you could mount the rifle overhead.

When I hunt hogs in Texas, that the carry methods, that I use.
