Boot Knife Sheath Help!

I just picked up a great little dagger and I'm going to design and make my first boot knife sheath. I'm looking for some advice, suggestions or direction from all of you great forum sheath makers.

I'm, of course, going with leather. I was thinking about a "metal holster clip".

That's all I've got for now. Is there a way to add an additional fail safe strap or lace that you would run through a boot laces in case it popped out of your boot.

Are you planning this for placement inside the boot or outside? Do you regularly 'wear' boots? Or are you making this just as a project to make?

It's just a project to make. not for cowboy boots, but for military tactical type boots. I dodn't know you could wear one on the outside, but i am trying to learn,
