Hey guys, just finished this up tonight.

One of my repeat customers and a coworker asked if I could make a sheath for a skeleton knife of his friend's. He wanted a boot knife sheath after seeing the one I did for the officer's dagger.

As with everything I do, I think I went way farther than I should have considering I told him it was just going to be a plain leather sheath. He didn't give instructions so....:)

Here it is:
8/9oz veg tanned, 3 layers, full welt on both sides. Also has a 2/3oz veg tanned insert that acts as a spacer and covers the belt clip to prevent scratches. Tooling texture was done with the ball end of my ball peen hammer of all things. I wanted a texture, and searched around the house without finding anything. Then I tried the hammer and loved it! This was my first 2 tone dyed project, got a lot to learn to do these properly! The eyelets are for additional securing either to leg, pack or whatever. Hand stitched with artificial sinew.

The sheath isn't symmetrical on both sides for a reason, I tried following the outline of the blade a bit more than just making a universal sheath. Next time, I think I will go symmetrical, should increase versatility with other blades.

Still have to apply my finish, beeswax/paraffin/nfo. Then it's ready to go!

It looks great Grizz! I'm digging your texturing idea. I have a pear shaped tool that does that and it has a knurled surface to it...I may have to give it a go soon after seeing your sheath.

Thanks Ray! I have a pear shader with a lightly textured surface too! Never crossed my mind to actually use a leather tool ;). I'll give it a try on some scrap and see if I like it as well. The ball peen worked well and was very fast.

Looks great! Wouldn't have thought to use a peen hammer myself, have to go find me a scrap or two...

Looks good Grizz, nice edges!. I just love orders when I'm given free hand. As for photos, as I wrote before, take them in daylight. Even with your HTC they will look much better without the flash.

Thanks again guys.

Yeah, this HTC has an 8MP camera in it and takes outstanding photos, but it's tricky. I will try again today in the daylight and see what I can do.

Outstanding work. I like that. The two tone dye job and the texture turned out nice. Too nice to be hidden in a boot. Looks like it would work for a neck knife as well. Regards

I designed it for inside or outside boot wear :) It's a little thick for inside anything other than loose top boots.

lol, no boot making here...I'll stick to my sheaths thanks hahaha.

Thanks guys.

I took a few more pics this evening in natural light outside....and man, what a difference it makes! Shown is the knife and sheath. The sheath fits tight enough that the knife doesn't have to ride all the way bottomed out.

The skeleton knife is just a flea market china stainless deal. I acid dipped it for a while, then rubbed it with a scotchbrite. Gave it a razor edge and fitted it with a paracord lanyard and bead. Both knife and sheath got a couple coats of Johnson's Paste Wax.
