I would like some recommendations on a boot/ankle carry knife and sheath. considering the izula but was unsure about the sheath that comes it. will use 2 velcro strips for strapping. thanks for all ideas

the only advice i can give you might be a little more expensive:

forget about looking for a knife/sheath that fits your needs and select a KNIFE. along with length, you'll want something thin due to the way you plan on carrying it. avoid thick handle scales. then, once you find the right knife, which it sounds like you may have already, have someone make you a sheath based on YOUR desired means of carry. then, you'll have EXACTLY what you need.

i know it sounds like alot to go through, but the payoff is worth it. a client sent me a bunch of knives he wants dive sheaths made for. they are knives that i seriously doubt the mfg EVER thought would be taken scuba diving. because of that, the sheaths they came with were NOT suited to his needs. he didn't go find a knife with a dive sheath. he got what he wanted, then set out to find sheaths that allow him to carry the knives how he wants. btw - they're made to be attached to his calve. so.... it's definately doable :D

Your plan sounds solid. I'm sitting here with an Izula sheath between my arms...hmm....looks like 1 3/8 inch slot on the spine and two holes across from it on the edge side. Should support a broad length of velcro threaded through the slot and then screwed or riveted through the same strip using the holes.

Otherwise contact hoopster the magic kydex man for a total custom job.

Also check http://www.coldsteel.com/bootknives.html or here! :)

Since you asked about the Izula, I figured I'd check for you. :)

Here's what I found...

Yep. It is super easy to turn it into a boot knife using the factory sheath!

All you need are some elastic velcro straps. This one that I grabbed could be tightend up to fit around the ankle, or worn above the calve in either a handle up, or down position.

I didn't bother to do so, but all you would have to do is run a small length of cord through the two holes in the sheath that you see here to complete the set up.

Here is a shot of the type of strapps I had sitting here. I picked them up at my local outdoors sporting goods store. ...But you could probably use a strap made to hold an mp3 player to your arm, just as easily.

...Hope that helps! :D

The Izula's sheath looks like it can rigged for ankle carry. However, Ka-Bar's TDI has an optional ankle sheath rig that's available & made specifically for ankle carry.

Having carried a BUG for many yrs in an ankle holster, along with a boot knife now & then, comfort is very important. Admittedly, a boot knife is going to be easier for ankle carry due to its lighter weight than a handgun.

The TDI's bent grip serves a couple purposes, not that a standard boot knife won't work. The pistol like grip of the TDI can possibly be an easier draw. It's also shorter (Full lengthwise) than the typical boot knife, too.

I've also used a dagger similar to the old Gerber, but I would look at Ka-Bar's TDI & ankle sheath. I don't know the laws of your state, but most seem to frown upon duel edge daggers. The Izula, of course, would not be an issue.

Totally forgot about the Ka-Bar TDI. It's made for ankle carry. I'd rather ankle carry a knife than a gun.

I've carried benchmade 175 for a longest while, now I don't wear anything, but if something I'd go back to it.

BM punch dagger is the Boss!

i would say bk11 becker necker. you can get the TDI attachment and its only 32 dollars on amazon with free shipping.

the bk11 is one of my favorite knives ever.i trust my life to it.

I'd rather & do carry a gun & usually have a knife or 3 on me. However, I do understand that CC a handgun for some isn't going to happen.

The OP can definitely rig something up, but the ankle rig for the TDI is made specifically for it. The problem with an improperly fitted ankle rig is that it'll work its way down your ankle & show itself.

Hey! it works! :p

I didn't rig it all the way up properly, but I figured you'd get the idea. It should go under the pants, I do realize thet. :)

Did you see the top of the cardboard? Says "Outdoor Bondage" :D
