Im interested in making a boot knife that has about a five inch blade but Im not sure how thick it should be or any specifics. If you could help I would very much appreciate, thanks.

I don't have any experience making boot knives but I've been thinking about trying one. I would try to make it along the lines of most neck knives. It needs to have a slim handle and be lightweight. 1/8" stock would probably work well. I'd go for something lightweight for the handle like 1/8" micarta slabs.Or maybe just a cordwrap or something like that
As for the profile, I would go for either a clip point or drop point in a good utility design. The only reason I'd have for carrying a boot knife would be to have an inconspicuous way of carrying a fixed blade utility knife. So tactical looks and things like that wouldn't have much importance.
For steel, I'd go with ATS34, relatively good edge holding and strength along with easy maintnance.
For a sheath, I would want somehting that clipped to the top of the boot, and let the knife ride low enough that only the butt of the handle stuck up above the top of the boot.
Just my 2 cents.
