I find that generally "branded" knives like Colt are outsourced to low cost makers and are usually inferior to what you might get from a reputable knife manufacturer selling products under their own brand name.
As far as recomendations, a blade of 6-7 inches is IMO pretty big for boot or ankle carry, and really larger than you probably need for SD. Two decent "boot" knives I own are the Kershaw Military Book Knife (4.5 inch blade, 9 inches overall) and the Ka-Bar TDI Ankle Knife (3.5 inch blade, 7 inches overall). The Kershaw comes with a multifunction sheath that can be carried on like a shoulder holdster or on your arm or leg. The Ka-Bar comes with a nice ankle sheath similar in design to an ankle holster.
Of course, be aware that carrying a concealed fixed blade knife like these will probably be illegal in many (most?) places in the US. To avoid potential legal problems, you would probably be better off carrying a medium to large sized folder clipped to your pocket.
