I have a pair of pretty good insulated hunting boots. But I was wondering what you guys look for in boots for bushcrafting. Do you tend to look at tactical styles boots or something more traditional?

Most traditional combat boot brands also make quality outdoorsman's boots. I rocked a pair of Converses longer than any other shoe I've ever worn, they finally died after the soles started peeling off. Now I'm wearing Asolos, which feel like walking on bricks, but are super durable.

In my experience, boots are something that you can't/shouldn't give advice on.

Everyone's feet are different. A boot manufacturer that one person hates might be the best thing since sliced bread for another person.

My only advice is to try before you buy. Wear the boots around in the shop. A good boot retailer will have some sloping ramps for you to test the boots on. Take the boots home, wear them around the house for a night. Don't like them? Take them back. If your retailer won't let you try them out overnight then change retailers.

Boots are among the most expensive pieces of outdoor kit. They are also the most important in terms of enjoyment of the hobby. Don't make a hasty decision.

Now, personally, I favour the cordura-nylon combos on makers like Saloman over full-leather.

Note: I'm not sure what a "tactical" boot is. I suspect they don't exist in my country. :-)

Tacti-coool (hahaha)is regular outdoors or military type equipment in all black or the new types of camo patterns.

I dont know where you are at in MO, but Larrys Boots on I-70 at the midway has 10,000 pairs in stock, and is a very good place to go. They will help ya with fit, etc...

I bought my Carolinas there. I like a full grain leather boot. Danner, Wolverine, Red Wings etc....

For lightweight/warm weather ones, I go with a surplus jungle boot. Desert or black.

Thanks for the info guys. I spent some time in the Marines so I am not completely new to boots. I had standard issue jungles & combats. I also had a pair of full leather Carolina's that I wore for quite a while. I guess I was thinking since bushcrafter's gear in general seems to be minimalist & with out all the new high end technology that perhaps your boots would follow. I am currently digging a pair of Wolverines but they are nearing death & I wanted to get some info from you guys to see what else might be out there.
