The other thread on Danner boots got me interested in buying my own pair, when I get the money. I wear boots most of the time just out of habit, and find them almost as comfortable as sneakers now. Anyway, I was thinking of either the Acadia or Recon models. I have always bought all leather boots, so was wondering about the Acadias a bit. Generally I like the look of the all leather upper better than the combination. Any pros cons here, or is it just a matter of taste? Thanks

How much breathability do you need? Many of the synthetic top boots have more air flow for sweaty feet. In streams or a half melted snow covered parking lots, they can act like mini-pails - filling up with water quickly.

Never owned a pair os synthetic boots yet. Have worn leather boots in 100+ degree weather all day long while working on my feet for like 10 hours, and had no problems with sweaty feet. Guess I will be getting the Recons, as I like the way they look better, and have no real need for the extra breathability. That is if I can ever get the money:D

It's a matter of taste. I too like all leather, so I got a pair of Olympics (now called Recons) while in the Marines. Worn them in 'every clime and place' in comfort.

OK, I'm gonna slightly hijack this thread, my apologies to ErikD.
Has anybody tried the Filson Leather Hunting Boots?
They're really expensive, but are very well made. They don't use GoreTex or any waterproof lining. Also, their insulation is the same wool they use in their heavy hunting coats.
Just looking for opinions.
FWIW, I bought a pair of Cabella's Outfitter boots last year, with GoreTex.
For a hunting style boot, they're a lot more comfy than I thought they'd be. If I had to, I'd go on a hike with em. But I still like my Vasque leather boots best for hiking.

Leather upper versus fabric is pretty much a matter of taste. The leather seems to be a little more weather (cold and wet) resistant to me, but either one will work well. If you're in an area with sticktights, or other burrs, leather is probably the way to go.
