I have a credit with danner and im thinking about getting a pair of hiking boots from them and i wanted to get y'alls opinions or experience with them if anyone has ever worn them. They look nice, but i dont ever here very much about danner outside of military boots. I'm trying to keep them under 200 if yall have any recommendations from them. Thanks for any info y'all can provide

Not familiar with Danner
All I ever walk in are medium weight hikers whatever the brand
Hope that helps

Sorry but based on my experience with Danner, I would try to get the money and buy something else.

I will say that a coworker had a pair of their hiking boots (Mountain Light) and while he said that they leaked and were uncomfortable as all get up, they did last him a couple years, which is a feat in itself in our line of work.

I've been wearing Danner Acadias for the past 8 years or so. I wear them mostly at work but do use them on hiking trips on occasion. My first pair were comfortable and water tight, lasted for 5 years before the sole was worn flat (no tread left) from normal use. I'm still using a second pair that i found in an army surplus store for cheap new in box. I've got no complaints they are comfortable and keep my feet dry and seem to last pretty well compared to any non boot footwear.

After wearing my first set for a couple years i bought a pair of their lightweight hikers and they are ok. I still seem to end up using boots on most of my hiking trips rather than the purpose built (for hiking) ones. The acadias were made in the USA and the hiking shoes made in china. I'd only spend Danner level money on something made here if i had to do it again.

Yeah if i could get the money i would, but not an option sadly. Just trying to figure out if they have a pair of boots that will work for hiking and just plain old woods boots in the price range that im looking at. Id love to get a pair of lowas, but funds are not in my favor for those for a while.

I just picked up a pair of Lowas... I have wide feet and the Danners never really fit all that well. They do make some nice boots so you sould be able to find something.

always wanted a pair of Danners but my Montrail GTX's refuse to give me a chance to buy anything new.

Danner makes some nice boots, i have a pair of their TFX hot boots, which unfortunatley while quite rugged dont breathe almost at all.

I've tried lots and lots of boots, and i think the current kings are asolo and zamberlan.

I had a pair of Danner GTX boots that were OK. I used them hard for a couple years before the sole split.

I have a pair of Danner Acadia boots that I've used hiking and hunting. Very good boots, no issues.

Also have a pair of Danner work boots that I use as motorcycle boots. Excellent.

My hiking boots are size 11.5 EE while the motorcylce boots are 12 D. Never figured that out.

The Acadias will serve you well.

The Danner of today is not the Danner of a few years ago. Since they sold the business their products have gone downhill unfortunately.

Because of my line of work, I had the luxuary of providing a unique consulting/training service for the old Danner. They gave me a couple VIP tours of the factory and a pair of boots. I was very impressed with the old organization, their business practices and craftmanship. I owned at least 4 pairs of Danners including an unlined (but GoreTex) Acadia and a 400 gram insultated Acadia, the Desert Tan Summer boots (Acadia) and their 1000 gram Elk Hunting boots. And bought several each year and I go through two pair of Acadia's each year for my work.

But since the business sold a couple years ago, their boots are slowly becoming so inferior that I've stopped buying from them all together. They leak like crazy! I've bought three pair in the last two years and all of them leak. No more for me. I've since moved on to another company and have been pleased. It is really too bad. The only boot I wear from Danner now is the GTX series and that is for off-duty "everyday" non-work. They're fine, but my feet are not immersed in water or mud like they are when I work.

The Acadias I used to use would wear out too quickly and leak. Now, I buy USA made boots for half the price and get much better life and no leaks. FWIW

I have been reasonably pleased with a pair of talus gtx hikers I bought about a year and a half ago. I really only bought them/wear them for hiking/hunting, but I will say they were much improved with the superfeet insoles I put in. As for leaks I have had none. I typically wear gaiters when in rain or wet and snow which certainly helps. I did find that the leather was a soft finish and would sort of soak in water quickly, so I started to oil and then snoseal them every time I wore them and they now have a nice repellent finish and are holding up nicely.

Sad to hear about the change in the danner quality. I always thought the USA danners were good to go.

I still have a pair of insulated Acadias I bought in 90 or 91. Wore them hunting a year or 2, but mostly have used them working as a Paramedic during the cold weather. Other than new soles a couple times, they have been great. They are a bit on the heavy side to my liking for the trail.

I had a pair of GTX's when they first came out. The boot is still in good shape, but the soles have worn out. Since they can't be resoled due to the construction, they have been relegated to grass cutting.

I had a pair of Danners and thought they were the most comfortable boot I ever had until they started leaking. Danner replaced them three times and every pair leaked. When they sent the last pair they also sent a note saying they would no longer replace them. No more Danners for me!!!

I have a pair of Danner Ascend GTX boots that are some of the most comfortable hiking boots that I have ever owned and I have owned boots from Asolo, Vasque, Montrail, Garmont, Salomon, The North Face, Nike ACG, Merrell, Wolverine, Chippewa, etc. I used to work in the footwear industry which is why I have sampled so many different boots and while I will agree that the quaility of Danner is not quite what they used to be the same can be said of most boot makers.

Back to the Danner Ascend GTX boots; I have partially shredded some of the lugs off on some rocks but overall the sole is a pretty good mix of having a soft enough compound for grip on rocky terrain but hard enough for decent durability. I have experienced no issued with leakage. For the full retail price of about $175 they would not be my first choice (probably Lowa or Asolo), but if you can get them closer to a hundred they are a comfortable and supportive hiking (not backpacking) boot.

Thats too bad. I've worn insulated winterlights with vibram soles for years. I wore the soles flat, sent them back to Danner and had them refurbished for about $75.00. They came back looking like new. Living in Arizona, leaking water was never much of a concern. In looking over their product line, it appears as if only their boots >$200.00 are made in U.S.A.

If I had credit for Danner I could actually buy some. I'd go military just because thats what I usually use. Surplus and .Mil gear has served me well for 15 years. I'd love a pair of Ft Lewis', but thats a whole lot of money when my 30 Dollar no name boots from Target work perfectly fine other than keeping water out, but they made seal skin socks for that I guess.
