Hey all, it's snowing like the ice age in CO right now and like always I'm messing with my gear. I think I'd like to induce a patina on my estwing sportsman's hatchet but I don't have any vinegar, or enough mustard/coke/oranges/onions to give it a try, I do have boric acid however. Would this work or would I mess up the hatchet? If it would work, any suggestions on how to make up a preparation (dilution, time spent soaking, etc)? I have a feeling boric acid is pretty strong, but I wouldn't mind a dark patina. As an FIY estwings are made with 1055 carbon steel so I'm assuming that it should take a patina rather easily. Thanks in advance!
