Is any randal ordered with a border patrol handle full tang? meaning as close as randal gets to full tang, like the airman or fireman.
could I order a camp and trail with a border patrol handle and have it be full tang?

Thanks

Alright, someone needs to say it... want a "full tang" Randall? Get a model 10. :-)

I thought you could order a 5" Model 15 with a BP handle? That sounds about like what the OP is wanting.

Not... really. The 15 has a thicker, wider and generally speaking beefier blade than a model #5. The 15 has a 5.5" blade. Not to say that a #15 with a BPH and half-hilt won't do as a great camp and trail knife in itself.

Thanks a lot for the replies,
So I guess what I'm wondering is that with a bph is the tang always visible on the spine side of the handle?
Also the airman is listed as having a sharpened swedge, could one be ordered with a false edge?
Sorry for all the questions, I don't currently own any Randall's but I am intrigued by them

I have a model 14 & a 15 with a border patrol handle. There is no exposed tang. The false edge is not very sharp, not like the main edge, too thick of steel on the top side.

In some areas (Massachusetts, maybe?) they don't permit blades sharpened on both sides, so I believe the Randall Shop will make models #1, 2, 14, 15, etc. without the second sharpened edge.

That's wierd, every picture I have seen of a model 15 with a bph looks like the back of the tang is showing.
Mabe some do and some don't because of Gaurd choice?
The only reason I don't want a fully sharpened swedge is for light battonning for fire prep- the sharpened swedge will eat up a batton.

I think we're getting the idea of the exposed tang wrong here. Unless, sams has a "rats tail" tang with BPH handle... which is also an option.

Yes, so the extra heavy tang (of a model 14, for example) in the channeled handle will show on top full-length and at butt end (I'd say roughly) 3/4 of the micarta handle.

Yes, you can request the false edge not to be sharpened.

You can also get into the realm of the extended extra heavy tang which is currently only featured in the Buxton fighter. But, used to be standard on military models made with tenite and brown (and rare white) handles in the late 50s/early 60s.

Can you order a model 5 with BPH and full tang like the model 14? I know it's not a "full" tang but you know what I mean. Or is BPH only available with a stick tang on a model 5

You could get either of the following full-tang knives with Border Patrol handle:
Combat Companion Full Tang CCFT (5” stainless steel blade, 3/16” thick)
-or-
Model #16 SP1 Fighter (7” stainless steel blade, 1/4” thick)
They have blades somewhat like Model 5—and you could ask Randall for non-sharpened upper edges.
