not the Mexican border, the Montana/Wyoming border :)

the Wyoming deer opener is about three weeks before ours and we sometimes have trouble with folks coming across the border into Montana hunting. this is some very prime mule deer habitat (both sides of the border) that produces large deer, so there is some real temptation

hence I found myself patrolling some very rugged country on the MT/WY line that is only accessible by foot (save a couple of very rugged jeep trails)

it was nice and cool at sunrise (high 30's), but it would slow warm to record highs into the mid 80's by late afternoon!

my loadout included a 2 liter bladder, along with another 1.5 liters of water, by the end of the day the water would be near drained. I tried to stay out of site as much as possible, but toted my rifle (along w/ a rabbit distress call) to give me the cover of a coyote hunter- I did see several coyotes that day

pretty vast and rugged country- would be easy to wear several pairs of boots out

I'm happy to say there weren't any violations detected that day :)

I'm lookin into becoming a game warden here. Figger that's as close as I'll ever get to fishing for a living. Great pics of some rugged country.

amazing pics as usual MT.. that is some beautiful country.. love the looks of that muley...

Fantastic photos there, some great views to behold. You have one awesome job bro!

Beautiful, thanks for the pics.

So, did you bring an alcohol stove for hot coffee? Enquiring minds need to know.

A Trangia burner always resides in my hunting pack. Was that knife a CS Pendleton Hunter? I've been considering one.

I always have a stove :) I use a fourdogstoves bushcooker- burn Esbit, alcohol or wood- nests perfectly in my 600 ml mug w/ room for my spork, mini bic and a couple of Esbit tabs

It's a Fallkniven F-1- great knife :)

Great pics. Which Kifaru is that? I'm thinking of saving for one...

It's the Express, a gen 1- perfect size for a 2-3 day loadout, it's a little big for day use (unless your packing bulky items). I think the Scout probably would have been a better choice for day use. It is very well built pack though and carries nicely :)

Warden,

Great pics!; love the choice of water carriers:)

Stupid question. Whats the duct tape on the side of the Rifle for?

Warden,

Great pics!; love the choice of water carriers:)

Stupid question. Whats the duct tape on the side of the Rifle for?

I've had great luck w/ Platy's both as bottles and bladders :)

the duct tape has my rifle "dope" on it- it's sighted to a 100 yd zero, I have the clicks needed for elevation from 100-500 yards- also have wind drift data as well; simply range the distance, dial in the number of clicks, hold dead on- squeeze

for years it was a large piece of athletic tape and this year it finally started to wear off- I figured duct tape would last even better. I think it will, but even w/ a permanent sharpie the numbers wore off :(- so I'll be going back to athletic tape

Great pictures, thanks for sharing! Keep safe!

thanks

love my LTR. its a great carry rifle:thumbup:

agreed, w/ the 20" barrel (even though it's a heavy barrel) it's not much heavier than a lot of other "sporting" rifles

I looked at the fourdogs stove website, looks intriguing. I'm saving my mad money for a smallish kifaru stove and tipi, though.

Stay safe, and
