I spend over an hour in the car every day one way, and it gets powerfully boring. Sometimes I'm on the phone. Sometimes I'm not. Gimme a call between 5 and 6 EST if you want to chat knives or politics or whatever, sometime. 315.391.1626

I have on average a ten hour commute every day. On average four hundred plus miles per day. There is only so much talk radio and music one man can stand.

You need to get satellite radio, I once drove for 21.5 hours straight with a few stops along the way on 2.5 hours of sleep the night before. Satellite is the only way I did it.

I do have XM radio. I mostly prefer the shows. I am big fan of Theme Time Radio hour with Bob Dylan, Tom Petty's Buried Treasure, Jazz Swing Seat with Wynton Marsalis, Coast To Coast AM, National Public Radio, A Prairie Home Companion, POTUS 08 a 24hr show on the election, The Big Score which is background music to movies (think John Adams Star Wars them or Themes to Brave Heart, Last of the Mohicans, The God Father. Talk radio from Glen Beck and Rusty Humphrey. Sometimes Alan Combs on Fox. I listen to Michael Savage on AM radio and have read his books.

Nearly 21 hours straight? That's disgusting:p I have a friend who while on vacation drove from CA to Nashville in one day. Some people may assume I drive nearly non stop in a hard core fashion all over the U.S. and Canada. Not even close. I am an 80,000lb tourist:p More so then most. I own my Rig and I'm Independent. I can schedule, reschedule, and route myself anywhere I want to. I have parked across the street from Graceland, in the parking lot of the Grand Ole Opry, in Dead Wood, In Williams AZ to catch a train to the Grand Canyon, At Six Flags Over Dallas/Ft Worth, and in San Antonio, parked on the beach to go swimming in Galveston, parked in beach parking lot in Monterrey, cruised on Daytona beach, parked at the largest Casino in the world which is in Connecticut, park in Vegas near the Luxor, park in Jersey City then water Taxi to New York, or in Newark then take the path train, parked then shuttled to Niagra Falls, parked then rented a car for nine days in Yellowstone. I park and hop on a steer adorned Limo to the Big Texan Steak House in Amarillo, park and eat at Black Barts in Flagstaff where the waitresses sing and dance, and frequent numerous BBQ joints in Texas, Arkansas, and Tennessee. I can hardly remember what I did a just a few months ago let alone last year. I snap some pictures along the way but prefer to experience new places and food without looking back. There is much to see and do in America. It's really insulting for me to read some foreigners view that the only places worth seeing in America are California and New York. Even worse when it's an American who should know better. I am sure you were in a hurry so no hard feelings. But there is much beauty in America that I have yet to see. There is the largest bat colony in a cave south of San Antonia, and another great one near Austin. I have seen much of Florida including many of the theme parks and Kennedy Space Center, but still haven't explored the Everglades and visited a museum dedicated to one of my favorite artist; the Salvador Dali museum. I have driven my rig in giants caves turned into warehouses; but haven't done serious spelunking yet. Many states have so much to offer but they may not always seem obvious. There is public Diamond Mining in Arkansas with Truck/RV parking. I wanna bring in a herd of cattle on horse back sometime this or next year:D Oh and don't get my started on Civil War Battlefields, and the museums and memorials throughout much of the South and East Coast. If anyone plans a trip across America post up and send me an email I have varied interested and much experience in exploring this great country of ours.

Alright while on the topic I listen to whatever I want on You Tube. So Phil and everyone on BF I want to leave you with two song links that I have listening to while typing :D

There was a time when I commuted 1+ hour in the a.m., and 2 hours, +/-, in the p.m. I feel your pain. (Or boredom, as it were.)

I started getting bored with my music, and the radio was all !@!!%!@!! commercials during those times, so one day I hit on the idea of recording scenes from movies - dialog/action sequences, from shows like Quigley Down Under, Hunt For Red October, Rocky Horror Picture Show, Apocalypse Now, Star Trek II, Lawrence Of Arabia, Paint Your Wagon, and Monty Python's Holy Grail, just to name a few. Just an idea, but anything to break up the monotony...

thx - cpr

ps - You gotta sing the words to "Maria", really loud, when listening to Paint Your Wagon. The looks on people's faces are hilarious. ;)

There's nothing I haven't already done to entertain myself on the road. Books on CD, learning programs on tape, talk radio, etc. Passive listening, even educational listening, is not what I'm looking for. I need human interaction to keep me awake.

Just read some of your front page on your site Phil and I agree completely with you!!!
My mode of attack when confronted with an aggressor is simple and easy to remember. I've even made a little song/poem with the instructions.
I call it the Three Step Boogie!
It goes like this-
Kick em in the balls,
Poke em in the eyes,
Punch em in the throat,
Take a step back then do it all again!
Sounds silly but if you practice it, it'll take down even a big bugger! :D

Edited Version:D

I call it the Three Step Boogie!
It goes like this-
Scream "Let go of my purse" Kick em in the balls,
Shout "Go for the eyes boo go for eyes yargh! "Poke em in the eyes,
Keep yelling "Stranger Danger, Stranger Danger" Punch em in the throat,
Take a step back then do it all again!
Sounds silly but if you practice it, it'll take down even a big bugger! :D
