Sorry, I don't post here often, but lurk daily due to the OCD-level obsession I now have with knives after discovering BF. I'm in the non-buying season for myself after the holiday gluttony of knives bought for me and my kids, mostly for hunting. But I've been interested in this Columbia River Ultima 7" knife for a few years and noticed that Knifeworks has had them on clearance at a pretty low price, so I broke down out of boredom and bought one-a 7" plain edge. I'm drawn to the handle design, I don't know anything about the 1.4116 steel. I figure at a minimum, it'd be a decent knife to carry when hog hunting and the sheath is worth half of what I paid anyways.

Can someone give me a comparative steel that I might recognize similar to this 1.4116, like 440XX, AUS-XX, etc.? Any other feedback on the knife would be good too. Thanks in advance.

Think modified 420C. The steel is very resistant to corrosion, is easy to sharpen to a very fine edge, but won't hold that edge for a long time. I have used it in my Cold Steel Kudu and Pocket Bushman with good results. As with all steel, the heat treatment will make or break it.

mind posting a link to the said knife? the only ultima I found at knifeworks is about 80 bucks which is 20 dollars more than at least another place.

1.4116 is very common in western style kitchen knives like Henkels, Wustof, and Victorinox.
