I love the outdoors. The feeling of being "free" in the jungle, swamp or forest is always a special one.

I find it very hard to explain to city slickers that mood that comes from nature.

Looking at the perspective of man vs nature or man and nature, I tend to share the views of some naturalists that it is becoming harder and harder for wildlife to co-exist with man.

Civilisation in human terms means fewer acreage of virgin land. This spells out to mean smaller habitat for animals and other species.

Of course, when man encroaches on animal land, it won't be long before it becomes suburbs and cities.

Some of us who are lucky enough to stay in countries which still have large tracts of untouched forests can enjoy the wondrous splendour of Mother Nature.

Animals, insects, exotic flora are born to be wild. Man too wants to live among the wild. So where is the demarcation line?

How far can we push the jungle before the concrete overruns the trees and becomes a jungle of its own.

All of us who partake in this particular forum are learning to survive in the wilderness, or how best to get the maximum from a virgin environment.

In the decades to come, at the rate the jungles of the world are disappearing, this issue of surviving in the wild may become a non-issue.

golok, it is funny you posted this. I was reading a book entitled "yanomami" it is about this primitive culture(hunter/gatherer)in the amazonian rain forest and how they are being wiped out by illegal brazialian mining.

the leader makes this statement:

" we don't have poor people.Everyone of us can use the land, can clear a garden, can hunt, fish. An indian, when he needs to eat, kills just one or two tapirs. He only cuts down a few trees to make his garden. He doesn't annhilate the animals and the forest."

in the christian bible, it says "the meek shall inherit the earth"

I believe this to mean those who respectfully take only what they need, and live in balance with nature not against it greedily. those who help others. compassion, respect and humility.

now is the time for these behaviors to be put into action, not just in thought.

good actions
