"OUTSTANDING"
I was doing a comparison of the edge retention of several blades. Part of my comparison methodology is to measure the Rockwell hardness so I have a better understanding of what I am measuring.

If you will pardon, a quote from my other post.

Alloy_____________________Rockwell
Spyderco Native III___VG10______59.2
Spyderco Military_____S30V______58.3

That Buck Vantage Pro is a helluva deal. I bought mine for about a third of what either of the other blades cost and it cut as well as any of them. Paul Bos gets a lot of credit for his 420HC heat treat, but his recipe for heat treating S30V is also outstanding.

more blah blah

S30V at a Rockwell of ~60. That's some good stuff. If I were still able to go out hunting, I'd get me one of those Cabela's Alaskan Guide Vanguards. As it is, a 110 in S30V is definitely on my must have list.

I agree 100% Frank!!!
And I happen to have one. A knife that's really good at a lot of things.

The Bos S30V is great from my experience with it.

I have it in the Vantage Pro, Vanguard and several 110s with S30V. My EDC alternates between a Vantage Pro and a Sambar Stag 110. Both are great knives.

The Vantage Pro is more a work knife, the Stag 110 a recreation knife, but both have seen some moderately heavy use and are no worse for wear. :)

i love my vantage pro.its seen some heavy use with barely any signs of wear, plus ive never had to sharpen it,only light touch ups on a fine ceramic.

Paul Bos has told me that he targets 59.5-60 with S30V, and it looks like he did it with yours. The other thing that the Vantage has in its favor (as do many other Buck models) is a very good blade grind with a thin edge. Cutting is so much easier with the proper geometry.

I have had a very positive experience with my Buck S30V blades.
