Rather new to Busse knives and cannot stop my new addiction to them but wanted to know if all the typical Boss Streets were made with a flat grind, in particular the Proto and Terror Monkey designs. I've see some mentioned in the sale thread with a hollow grind but imagine those were custom shop made. Also would like to know from all you more experienced sharpners what the best method of sharpening the Boss Street would be. I have a Spyderco Sharpmaker but would certainly spend some more money on a more useful design. Any advice would be appreciated!

Welcome to Busse madness!

Yes, those are Custom Shop pieces with hollow grinds. All the rest I have seen are full-flat ground.

There are about as many answers to the sharpening question as there are people sharpening. If you just keep the original v-grind on the edge, just about anything will do the trick. If you want to re-profile it (Busse edges are traditionally rather obtuse for heavy work) then you may want something else.

I use the "convex" method, which will turn up many threads with a forum search.

Also, some of the Custom Shop pieces I have seen are flat-grind to convex edge.

All regular production boss streets are flat grind, the hollow grinds you see every now and then are Custom Shop pieces.

As for sharpening them, it depends what type it is. The ABS are convex, so stropping would be best. The other regular V grinds could be sharpened on anything, Edge Pro, Warthog, Lansky, etc. Whatever you're comfortable with.

My BOSS Street Proto is a flat primary grind, with a V edge.
The CABS is also a flat primary, and the edge is a polished convex.

What would you prefer between a flat ground or hollow ground .22" Boss Street. I'm considering one or the other.

Thanks.
John

The Cabs, lcabs and Scabs are all flat grind with a laser sharp convex edge! That is why they are instantly my favorites in that size range.

I convex all my infi, so sharpening is as easy as pie. Strop at the end of a day of use and they are hair popping sharp.
