Boss street mod assistance

I recently bought a very well used Busse Boss Street in .22 inch thickness. I found it to be too heavy handled and thick for my ideal camp/edc/utility blade, so I'd like to modify it. I plan to remove 1mm of material from each side of the blade, then possibly skeletonize the tang to lose some more weight, followed by a satin finish, zero convex grind, and re handle. I plan to use the bevels on each side of the blade as a guide for symmetrical blade stock removal, which would leave the blade around 4mm thick with 90 degree edges for use with ferro rods. Is this a safe plan? Would it be faster to use a palm sander or hand sanding? I plan to use 40 grit sand paper to remove most of the material, and I realize it will be a lot of work. Any advice? Am I correct in assuming I will be voiding the Busse Warranty as well?

In this pic you can see the bevels I'm talking about.

Sounds like an interesting mod project. And yes you would be correct about voiding the warranty. :)

I am all for cool projects...

But I would consider, if that knife is the knife for you. Maybe sell it and get an other one more suitable to your needs.

It does sound like a massive on-take to get the knife to fit your needs.
Ha
And yes, your would void the warranty. Plus risc damaging the heat treat...

You might be better off to search for a Anorexic BOSS Street; only 0.15" thick, and it is already satin. Plus it was made in large choil, small choil, and choilless.

If the mod. leads to a failure, you will lose your warranty.
Send it to the custom shop- or sell it and buy a Anorexic.

Have just send a Game Warden to Busse, to be thinned out, not loosing my warranty and knife will still look like new. Dosnt cost much, either.

Thanks for the tips guys. I'm ok with voiding the warranty, I specifically purchased this as a project knife. I'm doing the mods more for the experience itself than for the desired outcome. I'll be doing most if the work by hand, so it's not likely to ruin the heat treat.
ETA- Would it be possible to get this thread moved to shop talk?

Taking 1 mm of steel off each face by hand sanding doesn't strike me as feasible. A palm sander might be possible. The right way to do it is with a surface grinder; Jeremy Horton modded a Busse that way some years ago when he used to mod knives. So you might be a able to find a maker, or a machine shop, that would do that for you. There have been a few posts here about drilling holes in the tang, the consensus is that drilling hardened INFI is a b***h. Go slow, use really high quality nitride coated bits, and be prepared to break a few of those.

Good luck, and post pics. We love mod threads.

I would sell the BS and buy a CABS. It sounds like its just what you are looking for and you may be happier in the end.
You could grab a less expensive knife to practice on as a project knife while you wait for a CABS to pop up.

Modding can be good fun- pic. showing my modded Rodent Solution:

Apologies for not catching this post until now. At this point it would probably be better to start fresh with a new thread on this topic in that forum with a simple copy & paste of your post(s) here along with anything with that you may want to add.
