I'm considering buying a standard thickness Boss Street or SCABS, but not sure which.

I know the right answer is ... GET BOTH ().

But if you HAD to choose ... ??

Thanks.

John

scabs. Unless you plan on really torturing your knife the scabs will hold up to 99% of anything you'll throw at it in daily use. Prying with a small bit of the tip will result in bending with the scabs where it wouldn't with the boss street, but if you sink the blade in far enough you will be able to pry a bit with it. Thinner knife thats way nicer in use with the same warranty.

One of the big draws for me was the CABS. On that size, I don't need a choil, really.

I already had a BAD, so the Choil less CABS really called to me.

That said, I really want a Boss Street for a more robust piece too! Not that I really ever abuse my smaller knives, but you could if you wanted to.

The SCABS will already have a perfect edge for slicing! The shop did a fantastic job on the edges! That is another selling factor.

The standard Boss Street is going to have a much more "robust" edge.

I always convex mine anyway, but not having to do it, and having such a pretty factory edge (perfect really) was such a selling point!

Really, it will come down to what your intended use is.

If you need to punch holes in floors, Dry Wall, wood, car doors, pry apart stuff, go for the standard version.

If you will do more knife appropriate tasks, get the thinner slicer.

But remember, if you carry the thicker one, it will still cut, and be much stronger. You can always improve the edge and make a pretty good slicer out of it (within reason).

You can't make the SCABS any thicker!

But for me, I tend to go thinner with the smaller ones.

I'd go anorexic on this one imo a fixed blade with that blade length should be used for lighter task.

Go thin, it's in!

I don't think you can do anything to break it, but if you do... you get a new one. That's the Busse guarantee...

Good stuff...

If I had to choose between my BS and my CABS, I'd keep my CABS. Now that I think about it though, it's probably only because my CABS is satin.

The BS is the only Busse I have with a coating on it (well, most of it anyway) and it's just not as nice to look at. I love the BS, and I doubt I'll ever sell it, but if I had to choose...

Tough one. I guess I'd pick the CABS.

By way of actually contributing something to this thread, though... the CG boss street has thicker handles, which I really like. I thinned down the edge a bit with the Edge Pro, and like Bigfattyt said, it cuts nearly as well as the CABS.

i love the thin sharp blade of the cabs, but i aslo love the thicker canvas handled boss street.hopefully jerry will bring out the combat grade cabs with canvas handles one day:thumbup:.

The Boss Street was entirely too thick for its size, the ABS line is where it is at. Without question...

I would look around for a Boss Street with a full deep hollow ground from Busse Custom Shop. It has the .22 thickness (thicker handle feel the than the ABS) but with the hollow ground, it has a thinner blade's edge (real nice slicer and ultra sharp).

Thin is where its at on these streets baby.

Not even a close call, anorexic. The CABS/SCABS/LCABS are the best knives to come out of Busse for awhile. They are first class cutting instruments and I would still push them harder than equivalent other brands. I would recommend the CABS though, choil is wasted on this size blade. The choil does look good, but you can get plenty close to the edge on the CABS.

Thanks everyone for your input -- the anorexic is the clear favorite!

Not to derail my own thread, but which would you prefer between the two thicker (.22") versions -- flat (Proto) or hollow ground (Custom Shop)?

choiless, CABS, all the way if you plan on using the knife for cutting....if you need to use it as a prybar, screwdriver or digging tool then go with the CG.
