I’ve made a few of these so far, and after posting the last one I did for my son, https://www.bladeforums.com/threads/z-wear-edc-for-my-son.1519447/ , I was contacted by a forunite who asked me to duplicate it, but make it legal for his state (max 4 1/4”, but preferable 4 1/8”). We weren’t sure if the proportions would be off scaling it down like that, but I think it came out pretty well.

I brought the edge down to 0.005” (0.007” at the tip) then convexed it to zero. I sharpened to 2000g at 15dps. The clip was brought to zero, then stropped to remove the burr.

The guard and spacer are g-10, and the handle is my last piece of curly blue anigree. I barely had enough, and I had to cut the tang slot perfectly to make it work. I sanded to 2500g, and finished with tru-oil, then blue label paste wax.

Basic 8oz leather sheath.

Feedback is welcome.

I know I need to better my photography skills. I pulled the dslr out of the closet, and it’s charging now.

That's a beautiful blade, man. I remember the one you made for your son. Whoever's getting that is a lucky guy!

I’ll let the new owner identify himself. He’s a member here. Not sure if he wants to be identified.

I’ve got one in 3v ready for assembly this week with spalting curly mango, and a 4” version in 1095. The z-wear batch will be coming up soon too. I have a broken arm that is mending from the dog bite three weeks ago. I’m falling behind on these right now.

You would think bladesmithing would be tough enough let alone with a broken arm. Hope it gets better for you. I actually think Z-Wear would be an almost perfect steel for a blade like this. The high toughness and wear resistance would make one of them a literal "do it all" type of knife.

I agree on the z-wear. If only it would get a hamon......

I’m using it in any application I might have used W2 in previously (and still do for the hamon.) I’m really liking this steel.:cool: The cut was before sharpening, when I convexed it to zero before sharpening. Z-wear takes a super edge quite easily, considering it’s wear resistance.

I’ve got four blanks ready for handles. These ones are a bit over 4.5”. If anyone is interested in one and has a specific handle material they want, let me know by the weekend. I’m planning on one in micarta, one in ringed gidgee, and one in bog oak, but can change them up. Not sure about the last one. I’ve got three cut out in m390 that I will heat treat as soon as my foil gets here.

Edit: two z-wear available. Two are spoken for.
