OK, I am off to Boston for a quick business trip and won't have much time on my own, but I gotta eat, right? Now, I have this vague memory of a great cafeteria style place right off the Commons that dished out huge plates of honest-to-god Baked Beans. The beans were fantastic, but the place sadly, is long gone.

On recent trips, I have asked various locals for place that still serves this stuff with sad results. A few restaurants had it on their menus, each was disappointing. I found one of the “food courts” in Faneuil Hall that claimed to serve baked beans: frankly, I’ve tasted better beans out of a can! :barf:

Anyway, I will be in Boston again one night next month and am still searching for a place that still serves up the genuine article - anyplace in the city for either lunch or dinner.

C’mon Boston, you still got Baked Beans???

go to Chowhound.com org or whatever it is and ask there or just google boston baked beans with chowhound in the line and you'll be eating good! Ya owe me big now~

If you are used to southern beans or any of the Hispanic variety, you may be a tad disappointed. Traditional New England food is some of the blandest on the planet. I hope that they have discovered salt and pepper since in lived in Connecticut in the 1970's:D

CT is noted for making wooden nutmegs in the old days !Buyer beware ! New England's diet had spices in ginger bread and spice cookies , pumpkin pie etc....Make your own baked beans -beans,onion,fat back or bacon and molasses. In Quebec a more subtle version using maple syrup instead of molasses....Food postings seem to be spread out in a number of sections of the forum .I think they should all be in the Whine and Cheese section.

I agree, both, that food posts should go in Whine & Cheese; and that CT used to produce fake wooden nutmeg back in the day......And I'm a born n' bred Swamp Yankee from CT! Ther's good tasting food to be found all over New England, just depends where you make camp!
