Hey guys - headed to Boston for the weekend and just have a quick q on knife laws - googled but could not find anything definitive especially w regards to if the knife must be concealed or not.

Sooooo just wondering if I will be OK with a Spyderco Delica while in Boston?

Further, can the clip be visible or does the entire knife have to be concealed?

I'm used to NYC law where no part of the knife may show, clip included...

Thanks in advance for the help!

Limit on blade length in Boston is 2 1/2"; unless you are carrying to/from/for work.

I've seen lots of knives clipped in pockets without any issue.

However, yesterday, I noticed that police were doing random security checks at major T (i.e. subway) stations. Although it was of bags/packs/etc, you'd get more attention than normal. It comes down to time, place, and whatever has gone down recently.

I've stopped clipping altogether--it's just asking for trouble. I attach a lanyard, and keep the end of it hanging out of my pocket.

If you're going to a game, concert, club, or event, you may get wanded.

OTOH, there is someone very close to me who I can tell you has worn a D3 clipped into the trousers waistband for +10 years 5/week in Boston and never had any questions or problems whatsoever. The BPD has better things to do than shake people down for knives. That doesn't change the Boston ordinance, just reflects enforcement priorities, I guess. YMMV and I am not your lawyer. ;)
