Has anyone else been "bit" by the compression lock?

I picked up a Para 3, as a gift for a friend, and (of course) had to spend some time playing with it, see how it carried, etc.

It is set up for "tip up" and I wasn't gonna make changes on his (that will be changed on the Spydie I have coming). I practiced a few draws. On one of them, I made sure I had a full grip before thumbin the blade. This meant the soft under side of my index finger was pressed up against the are where the lock is. When the blade opened, the little lock lever popped over and pinched the crap out of my finger skin.

Anyone else have this issue?

Short answer? Yep, but only a few times. I love the compression lock, to be honest. Anyway, serves you right for road testing your friend’s gift. That’s divine retribution, mate. ;):p

No bites. My hands must be too large to get tangled up in the working parts.

Also I'm pretty insensitive.

I haven't had this happen, but I rarely open my compression lock knives that way. I Usually use the Spyder flick or depress the compression lock and let the blade swing open.

Never had it happen here. (of course now it’s going to happen to me today)

I've also experienced this, on a Yojimbo 2. It doesn't happen on my Sage 5, or Para 3 though.

This. Neither my pm2 or 3 bit me. I could also be due to the cutout shape from the custom scales on my Yoji.

I've never been bitten by a PM2, but my Para 3 and Lil' Native have gotten me. After you get bit you get mindful to not let the meat of your finger sink in the Compression Lock cut-out.

Oh it has been on longer road tests. Heck, it got carried yesterday :D I haven't cut anything with it, that felt a little over the line. Lubing it didn't though...... even though it doesn't look quite as pristine as it did before I did, tho. In all fairness, Spyderco has to share some of the blame - the plastic bag wasn't sealed. I mean, COME ON, how can I not when it doesn't even require damaging the packaging LOL

This one doesn't do that (kinda why I lubed it). Maybe the pivot is tight, maybe it is just new and stiff but, when I move the compression tab over, it does not free up the blade enough to open without using a lot of wrist.

Well, hopefully the Yojumbo is less prone to this...... I have one showing up tomorrow :)

I'm bitten by my PM2's comp lock on the regular. If I'm paying attention, it doesn't happen.

No big deal either way.
