I just ordered a HEST knife. I usually don't care much for little neck knives. I got a satin finish Becker Necker that sits unused. The handle is just so small. I passed on the Izula. Had a swamp rat neck knife and sold it. But the HEST looks like I might actually carry it and use it. It can be hard to survive an oyster roast without a beer bottle opener. :D

An excellent reason to buy the HEST I must admit. Forget quality and workmanship, forget the best customer service in the business and craftsmanship, forget thoughtful designing.....

Cuts stuff, looks cool, and opens beers, GOTTA HAVE IT! :D

The handle was another selling point for me. It appears to be useful. And that little spike on the pommel could serve as an emergency corkscrew, although I usually buy the twist off capped fine wines. I admit, $100 is a lot to pay for a bottle opener, but at least the tool does something. I admit, like most men, gadgets attract me. :o

I hope mine gets here today so I can open my bottles on the river...

I plan to test mine at the first oyster roast. I think I can use the spike to pry open oysters and eat them with the blade. Open beers with the bottle opener. Yep, the Home Entertainment Supper Tool looks like a winner to me.

Hey HD ,I think you'll find the HEST to your liken, The Izula & S. warden are close in size... THe HEST is close to the size of the RC3,RC3 laying on HEST

The thing is, you don't need a bottle opener to open beer bottles. I open beer bottles all the time with the pommel of my RC-4. The bottle opener on the HEST is superfluous, IMO. Any true "survivor" can open a beer bottle with just about anything.

Thanks for the comparison pic, tony. That handle looks to big big enough for my fat paws. Now I am pretty sure I will like this little knife.

Well, of course anyone can open a beer with a knife. But why not put a bottle opener on it and make it easier?

maybe some people like to do things the hard way and learn from their mistakes. I personally think there should be a bottle opener on EVERYTHING. cell phones, watches... come to think of it, there should be a beer bottle opener on bottles of beer?

Yes, bottle openers on everything. Even if you are drinking canned beer, that bottle opener can keep you from breaking a fingernail on the pop top. The HEST is a true survival knife for tough, manly men!

It's not hard at all to open a beer bottle without a bottle opener. I find it's actually easier to just use a lighter or the pommel of a knife than to mess with a bottle opener. You just put the tip of something solid underneath the edge of the bottlecap, use your index finger as a fulcrum, and lever the top off. It's easy, can be done in one fluid motion, and you can often launch the bottlecap clear across the room using this method.

You can use almost anything to open a beer this way. A pen, a spoon, an Altoids tin, a large coin, really, almost anything will do. If you really want to make an impression, use the hammer on your pistol. (keep your finger out of the triggerguard, of course!)

I agree, I can't remember the last time I used a bottle opener. :D

Has anyone heard from DPx Gear regarding their knife being shipped this week? I ordered mine on Monday and called them yesterday because the my account page suddenly disappeared. They said when they receive orders they forward them to RYP and he sends the HEST out and then they send you an email saying so with a tracking number, maybe. I'd like to know when to expect my new HEST... Ideally I'd get a tracking number and be able to follow it right to my front door.

Hey Mr. Coffee, I have been looking forward to asking you a question, please if you do not mind. When (and if) some person was going into a sporting store (in N. Hampshire) to buy a long gun (bolt action .22LR , AR15, M1A or 12 G shotgun), what would that person need to complete the transaction? I know N.H. is "the land of the free" state, but how free is N.H.? Thanks, Mr. C.! FYI, may times guys from NY come across the boarder here to Ct. and buy 12G. and long guns on a 2 week wait. I did not know what N.H. requires being such a free state.

I think Pelton mentioned he would be sending the last batch of the orders out this week so I am assuming he is home and you will not be waiting too long.

I ordered a regular one without the number from KSF. Usually they are fast with shipping. I may have to check out the Izula, too. I wish I had handled one at Blade. Most neck knive's handles just don't feel right to me.

+1, be sure to use your index finger though. I forget this a lot and use my thumb and that shit hurts.
