I was visiting my folks today and while digging through my fathers old toolbox i found an old Mercator, Its not like the ones curently offered and i believe its an advertising knife. The knife is in pretty good shape overall but has deffinately been sharpened a few times. One side is stamped William Kenyon. I was hopeing someone here may be able to tell me a little more about it.

Well. that would make sence, My father worked as an engineer at a paper mill for many years before retireing.

Those are great knives. I remember back in the 50's they were sold at Sunny's Surplus in Silver Spring Maryland for 75 cents. Whole bin full of them. We'd buy them to use as throwing knives against trees and other boyhood abuse. They stood up to it quite well.:D

Carl.

The sales reps still hand those out at the mills. The guys on the paper machines use them to cut carrier ropes and then splice the ends together. Even managed to get one myself, they take a nice edge.

Those are great! I had one for years, until I gave it to a friend who admired it last winter.
