Bough a new watch and already scratched it, but...

So I went to WalMart today and bought a new watch. A Casio Analog/Digital AW80D-1AV, which has a 10 year battery, 30 page databank for phone numbers and whatnot, 29 timezones (30 cities), 3 daily alarms (1 snooze), stopwatch, 50 meter water resistant, etc. Well I put it on after I left and somehow scuffed the glass, which just happens to actually be acrylic. So I was bummed bigtime, untill I had a weird idea. I use Mothers Mag & Aluminum Polish for my wheels and even sometimes my knives. It is very mildly abrasive, but I've never noticed that it made any sort of scratches so I figured I would give it a try on my watch. Well I put a very little dab on it and started rubbing away. The glass (acrylic) turned cloudy at first but quickly became clear again. Well it worked perfect, crystal clear again, looks better than when I bought it almost. So all in all I'm very happy with this watch and knowing if I scuff it again I can fix it right up. $20 well spent.

Thanks for the hint. I have used a plain gel toothpaste on the plexi headlight covers on one of my cars with great results. Cost me $1.69 a tube that lasts for a couple of years. :D

I gotta come to Bladeforums to find out what toothpaste is good for ???

You guys are the greatest! :D I'm going out right now to scratch up a watch and try that.

JesusHChrist! The guy wants to talk about his watch, not toothpaste... ;)

Nice watch. Do you really USE all those features? I find that I never use the features; rarely even the stopwatch. Also, I hate digitals, but the analogs with the little digital window are pretty cool. I had a Victorinox like that once I wish I never sold. It's great for dual times which are great for travel - the only real feature I ever use.

10 year battery, wow.

10 out of 12 of my watches are solar or autos because I HATE it when my battery dies.

I've used Flitz paste to polish the acrylic/lexan bug deflector on my truck and it worked great. I'll have to try it on a couple of old scratched watches to see if that works, the toothpaste too.

Brasso and the plastic/lexan H3 military watch crystal is a old skool trick.. ;)

Toothpaste... Geez  :D Haha..

Anyways, yeah I'll use all the features, the telememo 30 is already half full with phone numbers and whatnot. I have my timezones all figured out, they'll come in handy when when I finish tractor trailer school. The stopwatch is something I don't use a lot, but I'm sure there will be a handfull of times when I will. The analog/digital was a real selling point, can't stand just analog alone, but together it rocks. Oh another great feature is the multiple alarms and snooze! I can see myself using those a lot.

I looked at solar models, and I really liked a few but they were out of my price range and didn't have some of the features I was looking for. Maybe someday I'll get a nice atomic solar bulletproof gold watch, but for now Casio is tops with me.

REALLY? You prefer the digits over hands?
I think analog (hands) is like using a custom knife and
digital is like just using a razor blade or sissors instead. ;)

I've got a bunch of Pulsar solars because I love 'em. They're tough and the best bang for the buck. Most of 'em cost under $66 shipped off ebay, except for a 200meter diver that I got for $90.

I had a Citizen Eco Drive that was much more expensive, but didn't keep very good time. It lost a few seconds every week according to my atomic clock receiver. I ended up trading it for a knife because the guy saw it and fell in love with it. I figured if somebody liked it that much, and I could take it or leave it, then he should have it.

The Pulsars keep perfect time within seconds over the course of a month or two from what I can tell.

I've been wearing a Seiko Auto 5 for the last few weeks ($50) and have been pretty impressed with it too, but if I take it off for a day I need to reset the time and date again. :( Which is why I prefer Solar over anything.

Still. With a 10 year battery, you will have broken or gotten tired of the watch before you need to change the battery.
