i ordered one of the NMSFNO knives off the company stores site.

Any owners of this knife? Is it one of Busse's better models? In terms of toughness, is this knife similar to the Scrap Yard SOD? tougher?

I cant wait to get it!:D

I don't own one but got a chance to handle them at the Indy 1500. Very nice. It's made of infi, so I'm sure it's tougher than the scrap yard, but they are cousins so they are both of great quality. Busse is the top of the line. You'll love it.

If you beat either of them hard enough to damage it you can still say you've done something.

NMSFNOLE is the best Busse mid-sized blade ever created. You will love it and in 5 years you will kick yourself for not having two of them.

I've got a CG and an LE NMSFNO, yeah. And I wish I had more of both! Fantastic knife, and currently my favourite Busse. Just simply great. I don't know if it's tougher than the Scrapyard SOD, which is I think somewhat thicker stock, but at least the edge will take a lot more punishment before tearing or suffering other damage and the NMSFNO will hold a much, much better edge than any Scrapyard SR-77 knife.

Back when I got my NMSFNOs, I wrote some of my first impressions in this thread: http://www.bladeforums.com/forums/showthread.php?t=601522

Reconseed,

I think you will like the NMSFNO and consider it a great purchase over the years.

There are some differences that come to mind:
  • The NMSFNO grind is full convex which I like better than the sabre grind of the SoD.
  • The NMSFNO handle will stand up to more abuse than the ResC on the SoD.
  • The NMSFNO has a drop point compared to the clip point of the SoD and I find that to be an advantage since the cutting blade has a more shallow rise towards the top.
  • The NMSFNO is plenty thick and INFI which has overall better qualities than SR-77. I would bet on the NMSFNO in a torture test.
  • The NMSFNO is going to be a much better chopper given its grind and length/balance. The SoD is a better carry length for me.
  • The SoD is much less expensive and gives great bang for the buck.
  • The SoD has great lines/proportions; it's a very attractive knife.
  • The SoD is lighter.
  • ResC is comfy.
Both are great knives. Worst case you buy both and resell the one that doesn't work for you. I expect you will keep both. :D

Hey Vox - thank you very much for this post. I really appreciate it man. I think I will like it too. If the NMSFNO is .25 thick as the site says it SHOULD BE, then it will be as thick as the SOD, because the SOD is .25 thick! :D

Quite often that isn't the case, though. :D Neither of my NMSFNOs are .25". ;) You'll have to wait and see. I don't know how much variation in thickness there is in the Scrapyard line, I don't own many enough to have any idea.

I own a SOD LE and a NMSFNO. To me they are completley different in feel and carry. Like Voxhog stated, I suspect you'll keep both because they are different enough where you wont feel like you have two of the same.

To me the SODS handle is more comfortable but the forward weight of the NMSFNO allows for better chopping ability. But like Voxhog stated I like carrying the SODLE better.

I just hope the NMSFNO is as tough as my SOD. My black SOD is my fave knife I own currently.
