I got a Mora clipper (green and black), a Mora 2000, and a Finnish Puuko 4". before I get them in the mail, which one will I like more???? I thought you guys would say..." they all are great" so don't try that...lol. I got into this by buying the CS finn bear...I loved it so much I decided to try the style out big time. I am really looking forward to the Puuko and the 2000. I also am looking really hard at the 7" blade puuko, it looks really good al around, so if you have one feed back would be cool. I am the type of person that gets on a kick and has to have them all...I know that this is a recuring theme around here, just starting up some chatter. Let me know what you think, it will be interesting to see who I agree with. By the way, In my back yard, there is a 10' circle of dirt where there used to be a fire pit. I have been thinking of covering it with grass, well, I am so into practicing my woodscraft, I think I'll keep it,as I seem to mosey over there whenever I want to chop, carve or spark! does anyone else look as crazy as I do...to my neigbors is what I mean. My wife comes outside and chears me on everytime I try and fail at the firebow. Still havn't made a fire with one tyhat stayed lit..hate to admit it..I have gotten smoke in a big way...but I think that I have it close. I have perfected making one in minutes, and now I have my technique down...the problem I'm having now is the cord or string, I tried NOT using para cord, but I think that I must. Jute breaks, and Poly string breaks, I am buying some leather laces as I heard this works best and if this doesn't work, well, back to para, that, I have made work, just didn't keep it going...it was my first attempt, and my most successful. Anyways, I have been farting around with my kit, and practicing so much, trying out new knives...I havn't participated here as much as I would like...so I just wrote you guys a bunch...there, I'm done. Gene:D

They will all be great knives for you. My personal favorite of the Mora knives, is the M2K (2000), but I like the Eriksson 711, the Frost 760 and a whole lot of folks including my wife, really like the Clipper.

Not sure which knife you'll like better, but a quick tip on friction fire: Downward pressure is king. Push down hard on the bearing, and keep your strokes long and smooth. You'll get it :) I spent many evenings on our tiny apartment patio practicing the bow drill and hand drill.

another tip on your friction fire kit. On the drill use a slightly fatter piece of wood and shave some flats so its kind of octagonal in cross section. The slight corners give a better grip on the cordage and the Cord will last a bit longer if the drill is fatter.
I know, I know, its really a hard ship for you to do more whittling with your knife But thats the way of it.

Yeah, I hate to whittle with my knifes...lol;) Thanks for the tips guys, I will try all of them. I am buying some leather laces, and having the wifey braid them up. If this works, I might just cary it in my kit. If not, back to the nylon.

What is it that you like about the Mora 2000? I am considering getting a 4" fixed blade and am thinking about Moras among others.

the handle on the mora clipper is awesome, it's one of my fav's don't own the other 2

 clipper is great :) its always on my belt now :D

so far the erikson 510 and clipper are my faves. Next on my list is a classic wood-handled erikkson, and more 510s

Handle is sized more for my hand, offers better control and is more versatile for the various hand holds. There is also less hand fatigue, which I found out when I was using the knife to harvest willow and then strip the bark and limbs. It took the better part of 4 hours of steady work to collect what I needed. It has a heavier tang and uses the upgraded version of the stainless steel (12c27mod). I really like it's blade design, which to me seems to make deeper cuts than the typical scandi blade, with less effort. The sheath allows the knife to be carried Left or right and has a firm hold on the knife.

Keeping with the theme of these knives, I just ordered a Bravo1 from Barkriver Knives. I don't want you guys to think that I'm made of money or anything...lol. ..I have been changing the overall style in my collection, a couple of knives at a time. I sell one or 2 and get a couple more. I had a lot of large choppers and bowies. As I get older, I just can't see me using one of these..I do pack a Spivey, and a mini hatchet (gerber) both good funtional blades/tool. Don't get me wrong, I love some of my bigger blades, and would never part with them, My KC3 is awesome, and I love my Scrapper6 and still say if I had to bring 1 tool with me anywhere...it would be this knife. but having a pack on, and carrying a complete kit, I use the smaller knife for 70% of the work. So now I just need to decide which little knife takes the cake. Gene

Me too, been getting a lot of knives in the 4-6" blade range and sold most of my choppers. I still like them, but just carry the smaller knives more.
