Bought a 1840 heavy Cavalry Sabre
My first antique.
Bought at an Atlanta GA antique shop
Brought it home and started researching antique swords “after” I bought it.

Seems to be authentic, to me.

Leather on the handle has rotted away, and I can’t find any maker marks yet.

Beast of a Sword…

Welcome aboard.

Do you have any pictures?1840s 005.jpg

Beasts are kind of relative. Here with a 'shorter' French dragoon model. His brothers are a bit longer.

Compared to the British swords, these big French models do seem beastly. Both in scale and weight.

Oddly, the reply area only allows text, or a http link to pictures?
I can’t seem to post pictures from my phone

If either of you could give me the spine thickness at the hilt & the weight (without scabbard) of the 1840, I would highly appreciate it.

If you're a real MVP you can also give me the weight of the scabbard by itself. Just for research purposes.

Blade length 90.424 cm
Thickness
9.2 mm at the Ricasso
2.5 20mm from the tip
1.07kg
Pob 19.05 cm
Scabbard is exact match in weight 1.07kg

Now, where can I find the post pictures option?
You will have to use a 3rd party image hosting site & link them here using the "insert image" option. Hosting media on-site is reserved for paying members.
