Bought a beater. How did I do?

So I was looking for a good beater large 21 to jump out of planes with and do infantry stuff in the field. I found this on the Chris Reeve fan b/s/t page on FB and jumped on it. Doesn't come with anything, just the knife. Was thinking about sending it in to crk for a spa treatment and was told they can replace basically everything that comes with it new. Paid $225 shipped

Nice score.
I hope you don't plan on sending it in until your plane jumping out of days are over. Then yes, send it in for service. It can look like new again. They can even change the blade. Don't recall how much a new blade costs.
It's an earlier no Idaho Stamp 21. Personally, I'd keep the solid washers and the hardware.

Clean and relive it yourself and just use it. Will look the same for as long as you do (weeks, months, years) and then send it in for spa service.

If it were mine I might send it in for a sharpening, as the blade looks rough out to the tip, but would leave the handles and hardware as they are. Knives need a good cutting edge, and I have always been happy with the factory job. Those handles are functionally perfect, it is just some cosmetic imperfections, and I think some good ol wear fits the knife well. Plus, if you get new washers you could need to go through another break in period. Which is not bad. But the knife you have is well worn in.

If I also had a problem jumping out of perfectly good airplanes I might look into getting a serrated blade from CRK. Their serrations are nice, as they are not full blade length, but would come in handy if you ever needed to cut through some nylon webbing or something quickly and happen to neglect your edge.

Overall you did very well, but what do I know? I was just a leg. ;-)

Look forward to seeing some badass photos from your sky people. Take care.

That is a good plan. Enjoy the knife.

Well I already have some good grease to go with it and a kme system to try and get that sharpening corrected on it. I believe I will be set then and just go with a spa treatment later on down the road

Sweet! Score of the week!
If it was me, I'd send it in for a sharpening.
Makes sense to me to get the blade back in proper shape and get it right so I could use it as it was meant to be used.
I'd just enclose a note stating about not replacing the solid washers.
I was recently able to get a pre-Idaho stamp and have had no probs at all with the old old washers. Very smooth.
Enjoy!

Absolute steal for 225. That looks like a 2009 or before seb 21. No holes in the female pin/screws and probably no holes in the washers! Personally I would not send it in because they might wanna d!ck with it for no great reason. IMO you have one of the best of the best as far as the evolution of the Sebenza.

I just read the comments about washers on this post. I’ve got a pre-Idaho from 2010 that needs a spa treatment. Now I’m rethinking it. Why are they better on these models? Thanks for any education on the matter.

It’s not that they’re better, but I like to keep the knife as original as possible

Give 'em a call and find out if they will give it a spa, but return it the same as when they got it. They are nice folks and happy to answer any questions. I also read a thread where a knife was returned with new washers installed, but the old style ones were also returned in a baggie. I think that as long as you give them a heads up and enclose a note, it'll be good.
