Bought a Buck 110 Sheath on Ebay....

My 110 is an older one from around the 70s or 80s. It was made before Buck started rounding the edges of the handle more. I purchased a replacement "factory Buck" sheath on ebay and it seems way too tight. I had to stretch and pull to get the slap to finally snap. The leather is also very thin, compared to my old leather sheath. It's stamped Buck and 110. The leather almost seems like not real leather. I guess it could be, but it almost looks a little like a pressed composite of fibers - almost like a synthetic or synthetic-leather mixed?

Is this what a current Buck sheath sounds like? Are they thinner than they used to be? Is it supposed the be that hard to fit the knife? I've wondered if it is a counterfeit sheath.

The seller shows a picture of a brown sheath, but then the auction says black.

Thanks.

Buck made both black and brown they were all leather. Can you post pictures of your knife and sheath? DM

I had a similar problem. I bought two sheaths that say 111 on the back and a 110 is too long. They work great for 112's so that is what I use them for.

It is not a counterfeit sheath and the picture is of a black sheath but my camera did kind of make it look brown. I buy my Buck 110 knives directly from Blue Ridge Knives and my wife sells the sheaths as I ship my works in zippered pouches or knife socks as the sheaths scratch the bolsters after I polish them.....

I'd trust Redrummd. Its rare that I find a Buck 110 sheath that a 110 fits tight in but it has happened. If the flap is stamped Buck and the snap its a Buck sheath. Use Mink oil or Neats Foot oil liberally on the sheath then put the knife in it and close it (snap it) and allow it to dry. This will form it to the sheath and stretch it. DM

Guess I know the "rest of the story", now.

Additional info - I can barely get it to snap unless I really stretch and pull. It wouldn't snap at all at first - it just wouldn't reach. It's so tight, it feels like it could unsnap/pop loose. Once I finally get it snapped, you can see the shape of the end of the knife protruding through the leather. I don't think this sheath is going to last very long.

I'm going to look for a better quality sheath and toss this one I suppose.

South,

PM me your address and I will send you a Made In The USA one.....

Redrummd,

Thank you for the generous offer, but it didn't come from you - I think this gentleman was in NC or SC (can't remember).

Thanks.

red faced, I guess that wasn't the rest of the story after all. It was nice of Redrummd to step up to the plate though.
