I picked up a GEC whaler last night, was wondering other people thoughts on it, also think it would be pretty sweet to get a nice leather sheath for it to carry on my belt!

I wonder where I could pick one up at?

You know, you would think they would be easy to find. The demand is there, there are lots of people making sheaths but I have had issues finding a maker that does this sort of thing, I mean dor slipjoints. I really want a sheath for on of my Bull Locks, or I wont carry one, they are too big. Someone would do a brisk business on this forum just catering to the slipjoint crowd...but Nooooo....:D

Congrats on the Whaler. Never seen one in person but it's a BIG folder that's for sure. Pics when you get it!!

Definitely will check the link out thee is always pics to follow my new knives :-) I gotta show them off to someone other then myself the website I got my whaler from has a lot of them in stock right now!

I want one of these bad but they are just not practical for me

I probably won't carry it that much, but I like the look of the blade! I wonder if there are any other afordable knives with the same blade shap just a more practical size....?

Well got it yesterday came kinda sharp but touched up on a extra fine stone then stroped it out..... She's sharp now named her besse...... I'm probably weird for naming my knives but it's what I do
Here's the pics compared to my case russlock

Besse is, as they [carefully] say [of larger women], "wholesome." :D

Fine knife, there. The comparison with the Russlock is especially telling. I've been carrying a #36 in my back pocket all month (when I first started doing this, I mistook it for my cell phone!), but it's a sma' thing compared to a Whaler.

Wholesome?? (carefully) :D :D :D

I like it. It looks as if it could make short work of thick rope. Very heavy duty, for a traditional pocket knife.

I really like it, I'm in the works if getting a sheath made for it to put in the belt, I know this thing is like a vintage Nokia in my pocket so on the belt it goes, it truly is a beautiful knife in person, if I can get some better compassion pics what would be good ideas, let me know, and I can* take some tomorrow. :D

AG Russell makes a nice leather pouch for his large toenail style rope knife, it might fit the Whaler.

I like that #36 ~P, it's a beauty  I've debated getting one for a long time, in the interim I found a Schatt baby Sunfish which rides nice in my front pocket as it isn't as big as the standard sunfish/elephant toenail.

I'd appreciate more pics if you can do them - preferably in hand so scale is evident. I am contemplating a whaler in buffalo horn as a "dining room" knife when I have to wear a suit.

While you're waiting for a sheath, I suppose you could pick up one of those cell phone belt pouches. The western wear store used to sell those in tooled leather for the urban cowboy yuppies. :D
