Hey all.....just picked up an Assit today & while I love the knife......the pivot isn't smooth at all! I worked it open & close a whole bunch hoping that it would free up & nope. Put 2 drops of Militec-1 on the pivot & now it seems a little worse....kinda like it is sticking a little.

What can I do to fix this? Run hot water & soap over the pivot to clean it out & re-apply the Militec?

Any help would be appreciated.

I don't know what's up lately but we are starting to see a rash of bad Quality Control from Spyderco.

See some of the posts in the Spyderco.com forum.

My advice is to send it back for another one.

Further more, this may be the last time I ever buy a knife (like Spyderco) that I cannot adjust the pivot screw on.

In fact I can tell you because of my recent troubles my next bunch of knives will be Benchmade.

Cheers,

The sticking is sort of a militec thing, I had that issue with it on a couple of my knives and stopped using it in favor of FP-10. The pivot roughness is another issue. The first thing I'd look at is the tang of the blade that comes in contact with the lockbar. Are there any visible rough spots?? (I mean the radius mind you, not the choil area, this often has a few rough areas from blanking) If it does I'd contact spyderco cust. service and see what they can do for you. If it does not, then it's just a brand new knife, scrub the pivot with hot soapy water and a toothbrush, let dry, apply the militec and use it. A couple weeks of regular openings and closings will smooth it right up.

Well after opening & closing it a few hundred times, it is NO better. I have tried running the pivot under hot soapy water to clean it out again & then reapplied the Militec again with then same results as before.

Don't know what else to say. The 1st Assist that I had was a BIG piece of crap. Unfortunately it was the one that I gave my old man. The blade keeps chipping under very light use! I have to send that one back again to see what excuse they will come up with this time.
Really getting tired of all of the little problems that I keep encountering with Spyderco's. :grumpy:

Oh well, I guess that I will have to deal with it.
