So, I happened upon several amazing items today that I couldn't pass up while browsing my local Habitat for Humanity store.

One of which was a sexy looking bright red double axe. I'd really like to know more about it before i decide to use her for the intended purpose.

I'll upload pics in a few hours - but to start any info I can get on this gem would be wonderful.

The handle is marked 35M2K. The axe head itself appeared to be dipped in some sort of apoxy/wax substance on the ends. Label in center says True Temper, Kelly Woodslasher. doesn't appear to have ever been used.

Curious if I lucked up and found something special. Again, any info on when it may have been made, the history of them etc is appreciated!!

Pics coming soon!

(also found an old belsaw key cutter to go with my key blank collection, something I'm not sure of what it is, vintage hand drill bits, and lots of old saw blades and knife steel!)

Thanks for your pateience, time and attention folks!

Any time you find a NOS (new old stock) axe it's a good thing. A Kelly Woodslasher was True Tempers home owner axe. So it might be made of 1060 steel instead of some higher carbon steel. But it's certainly a good quality axe made of good quality steel. The older True Tempers tend to have very good form and good original handles.

So while your axe isn't a rare or valuable collectable it's just about a perfect user axe. If it's in absolutely mint condition then it may have some moderate collector value.

Tune up the edge, make sure it's hung tight and then enjoy owning a very good axe.

Nice to see one with a label on it. I would say this is a collectible and not for use, it is a nice historical document. It is easy to find Woodslasher heads, it was True Temper's low-end axe, but I am sure it is of equal or better quality than anything you can buy today for any money. If you want one to use it would be very easy and cheap for you to find one of these in User condition, or to find a used head and put a handle on it.

One clue on your axe is that it's label talks about "ridges" inside. These ridges came out about 1960 and were used into the 1980s at least, So your axe was made sometime in that window probably.

That's my Woodslasher with the label, not the OP's.
