and already nicked the blade closing it on the bail :(

hehe just thought i would share

so many folks talk about how good the alox models are (farmer and soldier/SI in particular) i broke down and picked up it. I am gonna carry it instead of my tinker which has been (one of) my edc since last december.

i can tell i already like the awl a whole lot better, the can opener and bottle cap lifter appear the same, and i can already tell the tinker blade is thinner and cuts a little better.

But i will carry it awhile and see how it goes, i do like that the alox is thinner and still feels stronger, but i dont know if the bail is going to last long :D

If your not used to carrying a knife with a bail, then it can get in the way. When I got my Wenger SI, I had already been used to the boy scout knife my dad gave me, and the army issue all metal scout knife and the TL-29's we had in the supply room. So being careful about the bail was already ingrained into my actions. You get used to it.

If it really bugs you, you can pop it off, and just used the hollow rivet to pass some fine nylon cord through to make a lanyard.

Carl.

After a while you get used to the bail and you'll adopt a way of closing the Wenger SI that doesn't hurt your blade.

I really like my SI. It is a tank and has just the right minimum of useful implements. I got sick of the bail being in the way and removed it.

i am liking it
havent had the blade shut on the bail since that first time
being more careful

one thing i notice, compared to the tinker, i LOVE the awl, its just so handy!

The bail on my EDC SI is a nice tight fit so I can push it to the back of the knife and it will stay there. Unfortunately my other back-up SI's bails are loose. Anyone got any ideas for tightening them up? If you take them off and squeeze them up they are very hard to put back on the knife without scratching the scales.
