So I bought a Work Sharp,

As soon as it arrives I will let you guys know what I think about it.

P.S. bought because an easy way to convex every knife I own to shaving sharp is fantastic..lol.
Also Adam, from Equip to Endure recommends it even for sharpening the Beast BK 2, and I like that guy.

I would like to see how you like it. There is a multi page thread on blade forums and the opinion varries alot in that thread.

Please keep us posted,

Jeremy

I noticed that opinions are like buttholes, everyone has one and everyone thinks theirs is the only one that doesn't stink.

I have seen good and bad reviews of it also, but Adam knows his stuff, and to watch him take a dull knife to shave his arm bald sharp is pretty cool.
Also the fact that it will take 1/4 inch thick blades and thicker is fantastic because I prefer beefy knives.
I will post up a review when I get it and break it in. maybe vids if I have a real camera by then.

it seems like an interesting system.

unit + 2 packages of belts on a website named for a mighty river is still under $99. not bad.

might even be useful on axes if you are careful and remove the guards.

and it's made FOR knives... unlike some systems without guides i can think of for similar monies.

mmm

very tempting. might have to give this one a shot.

later :>

pictures!

I bought this last week for like $69 bucks online, once I got I spent the rest of the day sharpening every knife and scissor in the house. The usermanual also shows you how to sharpen axes.

I LOVE it

Easy to use even for a scrub like me.
The kitchen knife guide gives a 20 degree per side edge the work knife is 25 degree per side.
It worked on my axe and it has a scissor guide even.

All of my knives are now insane sharp, scary light pressure you can feel the edge sting sharp.
I bet you old hands can even free hand for even better results. came with 2 sets of bands each set had 2 sets ..lol
The head even rotates completely to allow easier access.
Even my beast 1/4 inch thick knives sharpened up hair shaving sharp, my 14 inch Golok could be used for surgery ..lol Fantastic.
Came with a vid on how to use it too, I am sure it has tips and tricks that will let me get an even cleaner sharper edge.
Very happy with this decision, even the crazy sharp BK 5 is sharper now.

I even sharpened my Cold Steel Rifleman's Hawk with it.

If you want an easy nasty convex edge, this seems to be a good way to go.

Just my 2 Cents

Silverthorn

Thanks for the report.

I suck at sharpening, I am going to get one of these.

alright ill wait for your review first :D i figure it will be worth it maybe just getting used to it will be the biggest problem

I have been watching the other threads with interest on this one. I just flat out suck at sharpening. I may have to pick one of these up. I thought I heard someone mention that a Becker would be hard to sharpen with the guide due to the thickness. Can anyone report back on that?

Live, I have multiple knives that are BK 2 thick, and they aren't as easy to sharpen as the thinner knives but they go through it just fine and it put a hair shaving sharp edge on them.
Advantage with a BK 2 is the grind makes the lower half of the knife thinner which makes it fit better than mine ..lol.

Good to know. Thanks Silverthorn. I am probably going to have to pull the trigger on one of these. I am so tired of working with stones, sharpmakers and strops to end up thinking it was in better shape before I started. Funny, I hear so much smack talked about using a sharpening steel but no matter what I do to a blade if I hit it on the steel a few swipes I am cutting paper again. Guess I am just a hopeless sharpener. :)

Been seeing these for a while, thought it was gimmicky til I saw them at blade. Should have bought one on the spot. I am officially a dumbass.

And on the website of the mighty south american river, there is a 6 minute video one can watch about this sharpener....now I want one.

hey, we have all been burned on sharpening devises. It's a good thing to check things out first

I like mine a lot, but you have to be careful not to remove the knife tip. Still haven't mastered this technique (tip-sharpening) on this unit....

that does seem like an issue with belt systems.

how do the pros prevent it?

i'm sure there's a bunch of techniques to learn, esp if you want to free hand... one could clamp the handle of the unit to a table, and prevent it from moving, and pretend to have a standard belt unit?

mmm
