So I lost my 0301 on a canoeing trip. It sank like a rock. I went to a local gun store and they had most of the zt models in stock. Im usually an Emerson guy but I really have been liking zts over the last couple of years. I have a microtech in Elmax and it sharpens like a dream. So with the intent of getting a blackwash 300 I ended up leaving with the 0801. Did I make a good choice???

You made a great choice. The 801 is such a great knife. Fit and finish is awesome. I am a huge fan of the 801 I have worked it pretty hard and it hasn't let me down. I sent it away for some customizing and I really miss it in my pocket, good thing I am loving my new 566 so its in my pocket until the 801 comes back

I think you made a very good choice.
Recently I got my first Elmax blade, a 0560BW, and I got it stropped up nice and sharp.
The 0801 will probably be my next purchase.
It looks like a lot of nice features for the money.

It will sink just as fast the 301.

Seriously though, the 801 is a smoother flipper with premium materials and better construction. Enjoy it.

I love the 801.
The Elmax is awesome, the bearings are awesome, the blade swings out as smooth as glass and it's no bigger than a full size Griptilian.
Mine is out for anodizing.
I can't wait to get it back.
I got mine for a buck and a half.
Now, for me...that is an awesome knife, at an awesome price.

Sir Fletch, you made an excellent choice! The ZT0801 is in my top three rotation. As a matter of fact I have it sitting next to me because it is going in my pocket tomorrow, and will ride there for a while. I also have found the Elmax to sharpen up to a very fine edge, while I don't have to use it hard, I still know I can count on it to perform if needed. Keyman is right on about the bearings and how the blade rolls out so smoothly. I also like the stiff detent because I don't worry about it opening in my pocket.

Yep, you done good.........

The 801 is a great knife like everyone else is saying. I am on the fence about the looks though. I am really not sure about it, but that is my personal opinion, I think the materials and fit and finish are good for what you pay for, but the looks just do not do it for me.

I think it's a good choice. Of course, they're both good choices. As to which is better, who knows? I think they're different enough. The 0300 is more of rugged, outdoors type knife with it's coated blade, and textured handles. The 0801 is more of a refined, subdued strength. Plus, the 0300 has that bolt for the pivot. I like the size and shape of the 0801 for sure!

To me the 801 is a upsized sebenza style knife. Fit and finish is great on mine, lockup is at 30% to 40%, deep carry pocket clip, hardened steel insert for the lockbar, and, what I always wished the sebenza had, a thicker blade stock of .157" with most of it being the pivot area, and the flipper.

Anyway, to me it is a great smaller ZT that is still built stout, and the knife I can go to when I want to carry smaller.

So far im liking it. Went to work in the kitchen this morning to cut some steak for breakfast burritos. It cuts like a dream. The bearings really are incredible. I was on the fence about this knife until I handled it.
