Bought an AFCK and a CS SRK!

Hey guys. I just got back from an outdoor store and I was determined to buy a good knife. The guy who was helping me knew NOTHING about knives. He told me the linerlock was better and stronger than the axis lock. I decided to go with the AFCK rather than the 710 because I have no experience with sharpening knives and I don't want to deal with a recurve. The 705 was appealing but it was too small and the I didn't like the handle as much as the AFCK. I also looked at an endura, CS voyagors (the old ones with the plastic clip), an assortment of other spyderco's like the police, puma's, buck's..etc.

I told the guy that I wanted to buy it and he started explaining the features of it to my dad (I'm 16). My dad was like "why are you telling me? He's the one who's buying it". Then I told him I wanted to see the SRK. He couldn't tell me anything about it. All he said was that if you threw it up in the air it would 'always' stick blade first......uhm yes. Then he said you shouldn't buy a fixed blade if it doesn't 'always' stick blade first. Man, I wasn't buying his bs. But in the end I decided I wanted the SRK too

Now my family thinks I'm crazy because I spent so much on knives. Just thought I'd share my experience with you

Take care all!

Read on evasion. If you stick around long enough, you learn everything you need to know about knives and them some. And then ever knife salesman short of Mike Turber will seem like he's sitting in the corner with a dunce cap.
And watch out everyone, here comes another knut!!!

Evasion, you chose well.

The AFCK is the only knife that I have that I won't ever part with.

It was my first-ever quality knife.

Also have an SRK, but I don't think I'll try to throw it up just to see if it'll stick "blade first".

I was at a store that sold weird Pakistan knives. The guy there was pretty neat, he made chainmail and stuff, but his knife knowledge was very poor. He for some reason believed that this Pakistan stuff was actually really good and spent 10 minutes talking about it. He then spent some more time elaborating about how sharp he got it by using one of those pull through sharpeners (which takes no practice, and has bad results). When he mentioned the pull through sharpeners, I gave him the shocked facial expression like he shot my dog or something. I believe the test he used to test sharpness was to hit a tree with it and see if it will cut small branches.

BTW, it is good to see that there are other teenagers like me who are into knives. I'm 15. In the last couple months I think a good 400 dollars or more was put into knives. So... I'm getting a big shipment of cheap balisongs, a Benchmade 9100 Stryker automatic, a BM-730 "Ares" (bastard child of an 880 and a 710 but not an Ares as someone here said, I can't remember who though...), a Lansky Deluxe sharpener, a BM Torx Kit, a DF-200 Jaguar balisong, a Gigand Summit, and possibly a Cold M-16K automatic in the near future.

I think a big reason why most teenagers aren't like us is because their parents won't let them have knives. I don't understand it either. My mom once suggested that I find a better hobby (she asked why I needed knives and then asked who I was planning to kill... in Chinese of course, so I barely understood any of it, but uneducated nonsensical gibberish is equally stupid in all languages). I told her that I wasn't planning to kill anybody, and if I did, it sure wouldn't be with a little folding knife that costed me over a hundred dollars. She left me alone after realizing that my hobby was actually somewhat productive (I sharpened her kitchen knives for her).

Unfortunately for one of my friends, not all parents will leave us alone to our harmless hobbies. I sold a friend a Gerber EZ-Out for $10 about three months ago, and two weeks later, his parents confiscated it and told him never to carry deadly weapons. Complete bulls**t. This friend is also 18, and a legal adult. Isn't it kind of illegal for his parents to take it away from him (stealing?) now that he is a legal adult?

Sorry, I'm ranting now....

Evasion,

If you went to Lebarons to buy the knives you must now know that they will not hire anyone with an IQ higher than 50. Although they have a reasonable selection of knives at okay prices, the "sales people" are not well trained.

Both are good choices..You are very fortunate ..Back in the day, quality knives and information about them were scarce and expensive..Only knives that were available when I was sixteen were those made in taiwan Rambo survival knives.*ACK*

A few years back I worked part time at a knife store. Most of the people they hired were knife people and had at least a minimal working knowledge of most of the stuff we sold. Most of the BS I heard came from the other side of the counter. My all time favorite was a couple of country boys in their late twenties or early thirties. One of them asked to see a Gerber Mark 1 and then told his buddy with authority that it was "the best skinning knife ever made". I just wish Bob Loveless had been there.
