I have a bad habit -if I really like a knife after using it for awhile-I buy a second copy. Let me explain my absolute infatuation with Pat Crawford's top lock design. About thirty years back +/- I saw a add for AG Russell's version of the Crawford top lock -AG called it his one hand knife and over the years had it made by a couple of different manufacturers. His blade design was just right -these were great cutting knives. Not unreasonably expensive but not cheap . Usually I try not to let aesthetics influence me when it comes to tools. But Pat Crawfords design is elegantly simple -pared down to the miniumum of parts-entirely functional and without embellishment. So I lost the first one -bought a second and lost that too. Got a two or three years use out of the pair. But this taught me a lesson :a knife's pocket clip had more to do with me continuing to own/use it than most other aspects of it's design or construction. The one handed knife didn't have a pocket clip -I'm reasonably sure both of these I lost just got left in a attic or crawl space or on top of a ceiling tile somewhere. My habit since has been -done with using the knife-clip it back onto my right jeans pocket. Still loose one once in awhile-but not often. Bought one of CRKTs first model Offbeats -not crazy about the blade steel , the shape isn't IMO nearly as useful at AG's and the top lock needed some work-which I never got around to doing. And the pocket clip is bright n shiny -shouts "look at my knife" from across the room. So-it's around here somewhere -but never used it. As is I'm sure a shared bad habit led me to a add for the now discontinued CRKT Offbeat II -and CRKT had done some very nice things to the Crawford design -fiirst off -the Offbeat II has slim textured "plastic? of some sort grip panels -that wasn't going to hurt -the originals had just bare steel-was a bit slippery. But the big improvement was a deep carry black clip-even the CRKT logo on it is subdued or is that subtle ? So- (jeez -these are outright cheap) ordered two. They came and the locks are perfect - ordered another two (they are cheap). CRKT -here's my wish list: D2 blade steel with a nice dull black coating over the blade and the rest of the knife. Big wish-talk to the Russell organization and see if they'd license the blade profile they used on their original One Hand Knife for your new Offbeat IIID2
